spotting rude or helpfull

Do you considerate this rude or helpfull-

See somebody struggling on a set and you are in between sets so you go and spot them..

sometimes i wish people would do it for me but i never do it for anyone unless they ask in case im imposing on their exercise regime/...
whats you opinions?

I consider it rude unless I ask for help, one time I got pinned down benching and asked for help, thankfully they gave it to me or I would off had to slide the weights on the floor and my gym doesn't favor that to much. (Clanging is fine, but dropping is only okay under dire circumstances)

I know if i am going to need a spotter, (upping the weight) so i will ask for it. I wouldnt mind at all if someone saw me struggling a rep and came over to make sure i was gonna get it up.

anyone who gets upset for someone going to spot them should recheck themselves. someone is just trying to make sure you don't get hurt.

What I hate is when someone is sitting there staring at you, and you can tell they want a spot, but are to afraid to ask---then after you spot them, they assume that you are there to spot them for the rest of the day and instead of saying "hey can I get another spot" they just stare at you when they are ready to do another set.

i don't bother unless i am asked for the spot, or if the bar is ontop of the person.

i have no problem giving a spot if i am asked

if the gym is dead then i always offer any way (bro if you need a spot just ask). The owner of my gym will always give a spot unless personal training any way.

I will always jump over and help someone if they are struggling. I saw one guy not watch his partner and he droped 305lbs on this upper lip. Split it wide open. Lucky it didn't knock his teeth out.

I usually stay next to it, but never go into the spotting position. I usually stand close enough so in case he is struggling and looks for help, I am there for it. I try not to spot people who press more than me either, that is my rule of thumb. I assume that they have been doing it long enough and know their strength to an extent. Of course, I also hate it when someone jumps in when im not struggling or am doing my last reps.. Its like, "thanks, but.. um, im good".
Im sure its all in good intent, so its hard to be mad at a person for it, unless they become intrusive for my workout.

I know my limits and always have a spot when needed. Some one helping me unless the bar in on my neck is not needed.

I only find it annoying if the person is not experienced at it and gives TOO MUCH help when you are trying to blast into the true failure zone. They apply way too much pressure and end up taking the workload off of you.

It is so nice when you can train with someone who KNOWS YOU and knows what he/she is doing.... :)

If you're enough of an idiot to attempt a heavy lift without a spotter, or collars, then you deserve to provide some amusement for me between sets. Luckily at this time of year, the new-years crowd's egos get out of hand all the time and it seems there's always someone getting pinned, or doing the plate dump when I'm resting between sets.. followed by a walk of shame, or a WTF are you bitches looking at tough-guy stare around the gym (and a walk of shame)

Only my 350lb buddy is allowed near the bar when it's moving, if a stranger ran over and grabbed the bar there would be words exchanged.

Its happened to me before, doing decline BB and the bar was pinned to my chest for about 2 minutes and I couldnt get up, luckily I had enough air to call a guy over and get it off me.

When ever doing bench if my friends arnt there to spot, Ill usually ask anyone, so I dont fuck my progress

Rescued a guy the other day. Saw him start to struggle then go for one more rep. Stalled out just shy of the safety pins so I ran over and grabbed the weight. At least he heartily thanked me.

Cheers,

good job bro.

I get pissed off when I'm on my top friday set trying to reach personal records. I'll tell whoever is spotting me to NOT TOUCH THE BAR AT ALL and DO NOT help me until I say help. I swear to god over half of all people do not listen. Some even start to help on the first rep. I only want a spot so I don't drop the bar on myself, and only on occasion for a forced last rep.

I always ask for a spot. But what i hate is when people dont know how to properly spot, its not a very hard concept. I say im going for 10, help me for my last couple reps.

The other day i asked some guy for a spot on shoulder press, asked him if he knew hod to do it he replied "yes" told i had a bunged right shoulder so watch out for it. On my 9th rep on my last set i start struggling and doesnt even give me a proper spot. next thing i know i almost got wailed by a 50lb dumbie. i was pissed...not impressed to say the least.

i find it rude/annoying when anyone talks to me while working out, even worst in the middle of a set

i think a certain amount of common sense is needed from people when they do consider it, and what they do while there spotting is also important. i had some guy come over and start yelling at me while i was on my last set, i swear i almost droped it from shock

Wow i dont think there is a straight answer to my original question.. At least i know it wasnt a stupid question

I try to keep an eye on people I see struggling just in case something goes wrong, but I won't just walk up to spot them. If I even remotely think I could fail doing something I'll ask for a spot. I do get annoyed if I am lifting and someone just walks up like they're there to spot me.

only time people seem to spot me is wehen iam in the middle of a 60 second static hold bench press and dude runs over here i got it and lifts it off, that sucked, i guess it was an a for effort
