Sport coat vs Suit???

I went shopping today for a black suit...but was tired and lazy and didn't want to be trying out pants, so I saw the sport jackets with no pants... ...... was ready to buy, but then got confused The suit and the sport jacket looked very similar, but then I saw one of those plastic figures with a sport jacket and a Tshirt below, not a dress shirt......

So can you wear a sport jacket with a long sleeve.....say Polo and a tie or no tie?

You can wear a tie with either one.

I prefer sport coats and blazers just because they are more versatile.

You also don't have to wear a tie with a suit. I have a very nice suit that I rarely ever wear a tie with.
