Speaking of prices..

Instead of brooding over the increasing price of oil (and ultimately all related products derived from oil, like petroleum and plastics) let's share what we've noticed going on around us.

Rice shortage = Rice goes up 50%
Wheat shortage = Flour goes up +/-400%

Milk? I'll guess that a gallon of milk will be $5 by mid summer.

Parents - how about baby products, like diapers and bottles have you noticed any changes there?

********************************************************

Living in lalaland every May-Sept the local merchants jack up their prices as high as 30% for produce/market items (supermarkets, gas stations and deli's are the first to do so).

What is interesting with the cost of food going up a local market that attracts all the seniors with the flyer sales dropped the cost of many basic staple items last week and included them in the sale. Their sales start on Fridays, so when I heard that chicken breast was on sale for $1.50 we drove over on Sunday afternoon. The market was barren, there were huge holes of nothing where people bought out the store. There was not a chicken boob to be found - at any price.

I don't know how they are doing it, nor do I know anything about mark up in a supermarket but I do know that the market must be making record sales.

You need to get a chicken coup in your backyard! I'm sure that will fly in your neck of the woods- HA!

I've noticed changes in everything I buy. Smurfy will love this one: I noticed that my cleaning products have risen anywhere from 10-25 cents per item since a few months ago.

What is diesel at right now? Over 4.20 per gallon the last time I checked. Yep, we all are paying for everything to get shipped to us.

I was at the grocery store Sunday, 5 bux for a loaf of bread... (for the good ones)

Dont like high prices? Go thanks Banks who are using it as a hedge on their phuck-ups past few years:

(a) expand the money supply to keep the upward shift in the aggregate supply curve from causing a recession, at the cost of higher inflation;

Milk is $3.50 per gallon here(Ohio). A month ago I could find it for $1.99 on sale.

Sorry, I'm not GM, but I wanted to see myself type. :)

I always buy up chix breast on sale at $1.77 - $1.99/lb., just bought top sirloin and tri-tip at $1.99/lb. My 0.99 cent eggs went up to $1.49/doz. a couple months or so ago. Bread is $1.69/loaf for "the good stuff" and I always shop sales on fruits and veggies, plus I have a little persian market I go to that usually has fruits and veggies dirt cheap. I just bought a gallon of olive oil and a gallon of grapeseed oil there today.

I quit looking at individual prices anymore. I just get what I need - and only that. Make sure I get a jar of vasoline and bend over at the register.

The worst part is I am in the oil industry. You think I would see enough trickle down to make up for it but it never seems to work that way.

the issue of world-wide demand accounting for these price increases is shameful, essentially it has been the commodity speculators running up the prices.

wow our sale price for chicken is typically $2.99 (hence why i ran for the $1.50)

I am jealous you have a persian market by you.
God, what I would do for some real rice and seasonings.

I haven't seen breads for under $2 (the cheap stuff) in a long time, the last time I bought a loaf was the dead of winter.

Our dollar is tanking and since we get things from all over the world of course prices will go up. Just stay tuned, its going to get much worse.

My parents had cows and horses when I was growing up....they sold the dairy side to Oakhurst http://www.oakhurstdairy.com

They kept the horses and run a horse rescue program on like 2000 total acres including several huge lakes that border their property.

I still get free milk from Oakhurst for life.

Check your karma. I need to do some scanning of some old pics of my dad's family dairy farm in Rutland, Vt. :)

There are a gaggle (?) of turkeys on the property that backs up to the house across the street from us. (They're really pretty - makes me feel bad just looking at them).

We had a Rooster coming around two or so years ago :worried:

A friend of mine dates/lives with an old farming family out here, they have chicken coups and DAMN $3/4 will buy you the freshest most tasty eggs you'll ever eat.

A lot of those dollars circled-back to the US. I miss the clean $1B a day we ship overseas for oil a lot more.

I just finished weeks of scanning old pics. I love Rutland too. My psycho ex was from Barre and I spent many weekends in Rutland and Montpelier

What's it by you?

$3.85 in walgreens and i make sure to go out of my way to go there and buy 4 gallons at a time. its sad because i could have $100 in my pocket and it will be gone by the end of the day buying what i NEED and not what i want.

Wild turkeys rock. I miss seeing them! You'd see them all over Ct. when I lived there. You'd think rural Ohio would have 'em- Nope, never seen a wild turkey around my in-laws house. I have seen a few pheasants roam around once in awhile.

I agree, fresh brown or white eggs are the yum!

A) Not much........and what did is sitting in the caymans all nice and tucked away.........you know this.

B) If it's too expensive to provide education and healthcare in this country, it's too expensive to field a military. So abolish the tax code. The govt. wants to field a military and send it all over the place.......they can privatize it. But they're making sure nobody get's any funny ideas about not paying uncle sam his jack are they.......see "U.S vs. Wesley Snipes"........lol

OMG...that's funny as hell that Ms K brings up wild turkeys. I had a flock of seven in my yard the other day. My cats were freaking out and when I looked out the window, they were doing laps in my driveway

Maine reintroduced wild turkeys like 10 years ago with less than 40. There are like 10,000 now. You see them everywhere now.

This is a testament to how well indoctrinated you are by liberal influences. To equate two recent indulgences the government has began financing (healthcare and education) with an institution defined in the documents that organized the very existence of this country (the military) is ridiculous.

Fuel prices are directly related to everything - it takes boats, trucks and cars to move the food from the field to the shelf in the store.

Food inflation has been increasing for quite a while - it is just now people are starting to notice. I am planting corn and a few other things this year. Sounds crazy but Americans have no idea how bad it could get if gas goes over $5 a gallon - or even near $10 and we are really screwed.

It's sitting in a handful of people's bank accounts......what's hard to understand?

You do realize that "under the constitutional guidelines"........our military was a "defense force" yes? Just forget, who cares. I want all my money now. I don't care about healthcare and education........I'm just not giving one more fucking dime to uncle sam. Privatize all of it. Everything. Evict govt completely. My misces friends are right, there's no middle ground. Either you're "COMPLETELY" capitalist, or you're on a slippery slope to "complete" socialism. So I want every fucking cent I make, not a fucking dime less. If I "choose" to donate to a military fund, that is my perogative. You can't have your cake and eat it too plunk.

There is hope for you after all.

.

So you're of a "miscessian" economic mindset? If not, there's apparently no hope for you. See, I would like to live under a govt that takes care of the inside before looking towards the outside..........it's just not possible. It simply is not possible to keep govt. "uncorrupt"..........it can't be done. Rome tried it, fail........the British tried it......FAIL. When you get to a certain size, bureacratic corruption is too inevitable. So you just have to do away with govt. completely. Such an environment would be pretty harsh........alot of people would get fucked hardcore from time to time. But at least we could wash our hands of all the blood.

The only way to reduce government waste and corruption is to reduce the amount they have to waste and be corrupt with.

Hey we have a plot at the ECO center it's 20x20' for $200 a year.

Wish me luck the only thing I have ever grown and not killed was a tomato plant.

I can get corn and fish for free (good to know farmers and fishermen).

Herbs are easy to grow (the legal kind!!) My wife has plants all over the house with things like...well...spices and herbs lol It does spice up the food she makes.

Potatoes are easy to grow too. Just stick them in the ground. We have been growing them for years.

I plant tomatoes, green peppers, green beans, and eggplants every year. I have a new house this year so they'll be in planters instead of the ground. I just loaded up at Lowes this weekend plus tried to buy everything else in site.

Wal-Mart has little herb kits. I bought one for my wife and that is how she got into it. It comes with seeds, little pots and you can stick them on your window sill and watch them grow lol

Now she is a pro who has stuff everywhere in monster pots.

Just get a peet pellet kit and start up some herbs. My Cilantro, lime, lemon, sweet and cinnamon basil is coming along nicely right now. My other garden goodies are just starting to sprout too. Can't wait for fresh veggies again this year.

Love the turkey pic Got Milk.

All this talk about gardens and fresh produce is making me lucid drool too.

I noticed something today in regards to your org. question Vel( well, kinda related)

There is a Bio Plasma center not far from where I was today. I've passed this place several times in the past and noticed it was a somewhat busy place( parking spaces were not filled). TODAY , while I was stopped at the traffic light, I noticed people LINED up out the door of the place! EVERY parking place filled and parking on the street was filled up too. I'd guess at least 40 people in line AT LEAST! Hmmmm, seems people have takin to selling their plasma for food, gas, etc. now too.
