Instead of brooding over the increasing price of oil (and ultimately all related products derived from oil, like petroleum and plastics) let's share what we've noticed going on around us.
Rice shortage = Rice goes up 50%
Wheat shortage = Flour goes up +/-400%
Milk? I'll guess that a gallon of milk will be $5 by mid summer.
Parents - how about baby products, like diapers and bottles have you noticed any changes there?

Living in lalaland every May-Sept the local merchants jack up their prices as high as 30% for produce/market items (supermarkets, gas stations and deli's are the first to do so).
What is interesting with the cost of food going up a local market that attracts all the seniors with the flyer sales dropped the cost of many basic staple items last week and included them in the sale. Their sales start on Fridays, so when I heard that chicken breast was on sale for $1.50 we drove over on Sunday afternoon. The market was barren, there were huge holes of nothing where people bought out the store. There was not a chicken boob to be found - at any price.
I don't know how they are doing it, nor do I know anything about mark up in a supermarket but I do know that the market must be making record sales.
