sore wrists from squatting?

tuc biscuit

New member
Anyone else get this? I tend to place the bar quite low on my back and after a set my wrists are always very sore from being put in such a funny position, anyone know how to combat this?

where are you placing your hands? if your elbows are 90 degres that will definitely cause some pain with heavy weights.. i would reach out towards the end of the bar as though you were going to touch the plates..that should alleviate the tension..

my hands are nearlly at the ends of the bar, I hate when I have to rerack I am alwayds scared of trapping my fingers

you're too big man :p

maybe try a high bar squat? more oly style, might help. otherwise, i recommend getting your shoulder girdle a little more flexible, so you don't have to extend at the wrists to get to the bar (if i'm getting the correct image of your squat that is).

Been there done that, its not pretty seeing a large man cry.

Two main options:

1. try changing your hand position around to see if you can find a more comfortable spot.
if you have a width ajustable rack you can get your hands outside the rack so pinching won't happen

2. get lightweight wrist wraps to help alleviate stress on the joint.

Tuc I was noticing this myself last time i squatted. For myself i was thinking Wrist wraps possibly and like scotsman said adjusting hand position

unwrap your pinky, instead of having all 4 fingers over the top, tuck your pinky under, it will let you rotate your hands inwards a bit. should help.

And it works well:)

Also make sure that your elbows are tucked straight down. A stiffer bar will help with the pain too.

Check out their Maddog bar (I believe it is called). Extra long, extra thick, extra strong. I love mine...solved my bicep/forearm/wrist problems with that bar alone.

At 290 its a very tough decision if its possibly something that can be fixed with form though.

Not sure I follow what you are saying.

I've heard that placing your hands with a narrow stance help when squatting....

The bar he was talking about is 290 dollars.

Ouch...the one that I got was much cheaper.
