Something that always bothered me...

Depite the fact you need to eat a lot to grow and such (or so they say) how come I know people who barely eat, but manage to workout and increase their poundages, and as a result grow? They get larger without having to eat a lot. And no, they didn't just start training. A friend of mine is an ecto/mesomorph and eats maybe 2-3 meals a day, the most. He grows. His weights have increased since the year I've known him. I just don't get it. Perhaps eating will just speed the process up, but you can lift even on a deficiency and manage to grow? He's 160 or so, and eats maybe 2000 a day, max.

He didn't gain much weight at all, but his muscles keep gettin' bigger. I think he was 147 or so. He's managed to stay rather lean as well.

I think that this is where genetics come into play. I also think that he will hit a point where his gains will stop, and he will need to adjust his diet. Plus his gains now would be even more impressive if he was eating properly. IMO.

Meso's just have that hateful ability to grow from just about anything they do. From curling 10 pound dumbells they grow! From eating 3 times a day they grow! It makes me mad sometimes that Im an etoc lol!

Meso is the middle though, is it not? I'm a mesomorph myself.

Ecto - Quickest metabolism
Meso - Middle-class metabolism
Endo - Slowest metabolism

Right?

Hell, if I can grow that easy too, then I'm not eating 8 meals a day anymore haha. It's such a hassle to eat this much.

I was always under the impression that the Ecto/Meso/Endo body types were mainly outward physical characteristics. But the metabolism question seems to make sense.

I don't think it's necessarily related to metabolism. I have about the fastest metabolism of anyone I know. I was eating 5-6 meals a day before I ever even started training just because I was hungry all the time. I can pretty much eat anything, even ice cream before bed every day on top of a bulking diet and I don't really gain much fat at all. I would definately classify myself as a mesomorph, though, since I seem to have pretty square proportions, i'm not naturally lanky but not naturally stocky either. Pretty much average, but more muscular before I started training. That's mesomorph, isn't it?

At 147 or 160...he doesn't need much food to grow.

In order for him to be big...he must only be around 5' tall. Let him try and go from 225-275 with 2-3 meals a day.
