Something I don't so much like about getting older

A few years back I was the youngun, had like one or two younger friends, and then a bunch of older friends. Like, when I was 19-21 I worked out with guys who were 30-40 (professional bouncers so had been into it for a while), then in my early 20's the guys were more like 26-28 (again, bouncers), then at around 23 or so I started working out with guys more my own age (non-bouncers), and now I am noticing it is younger guys who I am surrounded by - it's probably in large part because I sarted working out in university gyms at around 23 but still. It sucks. It's also the type of people I think that is striking me as odd - the bouncer versus non-bouncer vibe. The only guys I am learning from are the kin grad students, but I have to say, they have some good tricks up their sleeves.

Now, the older friends have disappeared and I'm left with all the young dudes. I keep getting asked by like 21 year old dudes to workout, come over and smoke weed and shit. It's like, man, you seem like a nice guy and I might if I were a bit younger, but I can't handle this whole seniority thing. I have enough younger friends and I'm not looking for more - it just makes me feel older and shit, or at least reminds me of it.

I'm not going to like being an old man, which is why I'm pretty sure I'l burn out long before then. Who's with me?

My guess would be that as people get married, have kids, get seriously wrapped up in their careers, they don't find as much time for the gym. Thus, gyms are overrun with the 20 somethings and it tapers off as you go up in age.

I wasn't even going to mention the girls thing. But I'm pretty bad with that shit too. In my early twenties, I was dating girls in their early twenties. I guess I sort of grew up with them in a way and those girls would start to say words like marriage and babies, and were all like, "I'm going to get fatter as I get older so you had better get used to it." And a lot of the older guys I was hanging around were all dating younger girls.
Now I'm a bit older and I'm dating a girl who is...uh, younger. And it's really fucking with my head. I'm going to air all my laundry for you today.

They were fucking strippers, juicing, training, and that's about it. They seemed to be having a pretty solid time I gotta say.

As for the talk, lots of talk about fighting, which girls are whores, etc. Mostly it was funyn stories about stupid drunk people doing stupid things. There was usually something exciting about the night everyone would be talking about - like some brawl that we'd all be like DID YOU SEE WHEN.... and OH MAN, LARRY TOTALLY PLOWED THAT ONE GUY... Bunch of jackasses.

Me too but I've worked for a number of them. A lot of them start up their own bouncing "business" and then get a bunch of yougner guys working for them. I tend to agree wtih you and can't hide my looks of disapproval when I go by the bars anymore.

Yeah, some of the kids are immature and annoying. I hang out with the ones I like about whom I can't but constantly think MAN THIS DUDE IS YOUNG AS HELL because of the dumb shit they say or whatever. I have no problem with 21 year olds. Or 20 year olds. Or 19 year olds. Or whatever. Some of them though are just into thinfs I'm not into anymor I guess. I don't know. Nevermind. I hate all of you. they are all losers man. i bounced for many years and ive seen those 40 something bouncers who have "been there, done that" and then some. but if you break it down they are all losers that have absolutely nothing better to do in life and have no ambition to make something of themselves. they are stuck in the bar scene and cant get out but act like they are having the time of their lives. im 32 and i stopped bouncing last year. i dont want to be that 40 something year old telling stories of how i kicked someones ass. i only went back to bouncing after the military because im in school trying to better my life. trust me, if you are in your 30's and still bouncing without a goal set then your a loser. there is absolutely no future in bouncing. no retirement, no benefits... if you get hurt your on your own. my family cant afford that kind of risk.

and if you even think those chicks the bouncers are "banging" remember them you are so kidding yourself. i bounced until the end of last year and i went back to the same place i bounced at and not one customer that used to hang all over me even rememebered who i was. most guys dont want to lose that attention. im glad im out, its like a cancer and it keeps growing and growing and unless you cut it out you will die. there is no future in bouncing.

move on, live your life and make something of yourself and dont follow in those morons footsteps.
