I'm sorry but your existence is not based on any other person but yourself. Yes it will hurt if this breaks you and him up. It will hurt for a long time, but if you don't tell him, this will always be there, just waiting for the wrong time to come out.

You should just chalk this up to a very unfortunate mistake on your part, and learn from it. If ya'll make it through this, maybe it will make you stronger. But no matter what happens, hopefully it will make you wiser.
