Someone know what this is?

After hitting the gym I mix 30g of protein, 60g of dextrose, 10g of creatine and 100 mg of ALA. But I seem to get a stomach ache 30 min - 1 hour after (feels like you've been punched but to a smaller extent). Anyone have a clue as to what this is? The solution is about 25 ounces.

I use 100% whey from opt nutrition
creatine from prolab
interactive ala

dextrose just bought from a supermarket

I wouldn't change a thing. That's a perfect post-workout drink. Keep the creatine in. Post-workout is the best time to have creatine.

I'm not all that familiar with ALA (never used it), but if I remember correctly it improves the uptake of nutrients.

Try eating a solid meal around the time you get the stomach pain. I think your body might be craving some quality whole food. When do you usually eat after the post-workout drink?

i usually split things up when i am taking creatine:

first creatine + dextrose + ala

protein about 15-20 minutes later...

optimum whey is also part whey concentrate, maybe try a protein that is 100% isolate.

if my stomach is feeling iffy, i will often eat food with my protein.

Take your protein before the workout, take the carbs straight after. The protein you take after the workout is already too late to be used :)

Me I take protein before and after to be safe :D

i always thought protein was used to help REBUILD the muscle, so i dont see why youd need it right before/for the actual workout:confused:

I get a similar stomach ache from whey concentrate... have you ever used that specific protein before by itself? I use whey isolate (allthewhey) and no stomach ache... creatine or the other stuff should not matter IMO

Well after a workout your cells are more sensitive to insulin than at any other time. As such, you use a high carb drink to spike your insulin to give creatine and protein a ride within the cell :). Apparently the earlier the protein gets in the cell the better. It has to do with slowing down postworkout catabolism. The only reason I use whey protein is because it's already been hydrolysed so it doesn't have to be broken down before being sent in the blood stream. Of course, maybe I'm getting an acid/pepsin burn because its hydrolysed, although everyone else would feel the same thing if that were the case...who knows =/

If I wake up at night and I'm hungry I just mix whey with some milk (I live in a shitty residence food services close at 7pm). No pain whatsoever, if I take creatine in grape juice...nothing. It could be the dextrose or ALA or mixing protein/creatine. Maybe I should test it out next time. Does citric acid render creatine useless?

If none of the stuff is bothering you seperately... how soon do you put that down? Like immediate, or 10-20 minutes later? Is it a lot? Is it super cold? The only other thing I could think of is drinking a huge volume super quick, if it is real cold... does not make sense bro....

i think he is saying by the time the protein is digested, you are past ur anabolic window...IMO, have ur drink before even leaving the gym...i know i cant take creatine at all unless my ass is beat and broken down, just leaving the gym! slow down how fast u drink it too
