Some thoughts on your IP addresses and Chairman Members

I guess, the only problem is that with an IP address, all sorts of unsavory things can happen...I doubt any of the sponsors here would do something like that though.

Lets say, for example, you make up an IP like (random):

192.88.168.35

Then run it through certain web based programs....This random IP is from TX...but you can find out whom it belongs to, where they live, etc..if you have the right program. The question is why would you do that? I mean...but I mean...someone would have to really piss you off to actually "use" that information.

With all respect, you cannot find out where someone lives from his IP address. You can get the address for the headquarters of the ISP that owns the IP address. That's it.

I'll admit I was infuriated when this first came out and I was going to jump ship.

After hitting the gym today (and being pleased with my results thus far - which wouldn't have happened without your site) and taking into consideration your reply I am glad to still be here.

Thanks for looking out for our best interests GS and props to you for resolving this in a very timely and professional manner!

Not completely true! Keeping in mind the fact that in your opening statement to the board you mentioned that anything posted on the internet should be considered public. I agree 100% with that statement. Any joker can pay a couple bucks and get the geo. location of an IP if they know what they are doing. Probably not the average moderator here, but regardless, a bad idea considering the topics discussed here.

I am still considering leaving here because of the fact that this was ever even conceived as a good idea. Site admins that you are "flying out of the country" might need them, but for what exactly I would like you to explain. If I missed this explanation in the hundreds of posts prior than my bad. Moderators should not have access to this.

You are correct and much of using an IP's address to accuratly locate someone is largely based on the ISP and users method of accessing this site. Mods here have had access to IP's since day one and they also do by default on every other board I have seen the backend of so dont think leaving here will get rid of the issue if thats your deciding factor.

To add to that this forum is the only one I know of who does have legal council and actually spends money to protect your privacy. Now granted in the past mods ability to see IP's and perhaps bugs with the software were the only primary spot for IP abuse George has seen the concerns and addressed them.
