then they would really start carrying the luggage around campus

:lmao:

Seriously, though, it would be more fair to say that most of those guys like that in the gym are from fraternities, but most people in fraternities are not like those guys.

Ok guys, I will try to be the voice of reason.

If those people are trying to workout with heavier weight than they can with proper form, they are dicks.
If those people want to grow and are not growing, then they are dicks for not finding a site like this on the internet to help them.

Some people do not want a body builders physique!!! They want to be in shape and use weights to do so but are not looking to grow.
They do 10-15 reps for three easy sets, barely reaching failure and they are happy with this. In my opinion they should still change their routine every few months, maybe they do and still do not grow. As I said, maybe they don't want to grow.

Some people work out to strengthen their body as they have a bad back or an injury. The gym is great for them but they have to go slow and easy. SIZE is not their goal.

I myself would like to reach a certain size and strength and then just maintain it.
Anybody who cannot understand why I or someone else would want this, has a serious problem understanding other people in general.
Really, from reading some of the above posts it sounds to me like many people here think that anyone who's main goal in life is not be a body builder must be a stupid pansy girlie. I agree that lots of people I see in my gym are pretty ridiculous but some of those ridiculous people are the huge body builders walking around as if they are the best human sample in the vicinity - just because they are huge...

You can't knock anyone for consistently going to the gym because over 80% of the population are too lazy to go even once (I pulled that number out of my ass, but it seems about right). I think what the other guys on this thread were knocking are the one's who are there to grow or get stronger, but are too ignorant to learn proper methods of training. Instead they do chest, bis, and abs everytime they are in the gym, think they are the shit for pressing 135, and then complain that they cannot grow.

As a gym owner, I watch people come in and go out all day long, the same people, and hopefully new people day in and and day out, week after week, month after month, year after year. And let me say that I am 100% convinced that the number one reason that people don't grow is what I call "UNDER LIFTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" It actually gets to the point where I'll get pissed off watching a guy doing a set of db rows for 8 reps with 20lbs. when I can tell by the expression on his face that he could easily do it with 60 pounds. Since I'm the owner I can do these things, so I'll go over to the guy and ask him what the hell he's doing and have him get the 60 pound db and do the set of 8, which of course he can. But what happens, the next week when he's doing back again?????? He goes and gets the stupid 20 lb. bell again and sticks to it!!!!!!!!! I don't even bother with these guys anymore, cause ya can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. I don't leave the gym to anyone else, cause basically I don't trust anyone else with my "people" so I know each and every person who works out there, and after 5 years of watching both men and women work out, the ONLY one's (and unfortunalty it's only a small handfull) who have many any serious gains are the one's who consistantly push and challenge themselves with progressively heavyer weights, or by using "intensity" techniques. I agree with those of you who mentioned diet as a factor also, but the bottom line is that if you don't stimulate the muscle to grow in the gym, not even the best of diets is gonna make a damm difference.
