Soldier awarded Purple Heart deserts to Canada

Let's all keep the name calling out of this please. We can all have differing opinions and still have an intelligent debate without resorting to belittling those that disagree with us.

I agree, but it's hard not to sometimes. Especially when you've been insulted first.

I'll still never understand the _purpose_ of this war.

You and I all know, in 30 years -- that country will still be run by communist infidels fighting evil factions hellbent on religious and systematic destruction. And we'll still all be here wondering if they're making WMD's.

Not like it'll become some lovely Shangri-La where young american teenagers can go to party on spring break -- drink in Baghdad, bang some hot Riyahd hookers, and enjoy sunny days on Baghdad Disneyland -- all courtesy of the blood of our young men.

If that's what our leaders are believing -- boy are they niave and without a clue. Makes me doubt their ability to govern if they're driven by fantasies rather than facts.

Deserved what you got? I find that offensive and without basis. There may have been a small minority of arabs that cheered when 9/11 happened bro but nobody with half a brain thinks you 'deserved it'. I don't agree with George's little campaign, that does not make me an America hater and it certainly does not mean that I think 9/11 was deserved.

There have been a number of good things that have happened recently in this situation, I fully acknowledge and applaud that. There has also been an inundation of negative things that have happened, can you acknowledge that? Your hero in the Oval Office can't.

The suggestion that any American who questions this administration is a crazy, liberal leftist who hates America is bullshit and communist in and of itself. You are supposed to be able to question what your leaders do in your country, that's what many of your constitutional ideals were written for.

If you want to post up a coherent point about why you think the war was a good thing and what you think the reasoning was, go for it. Don't paint half of America and 80% of the rest of the world with the same brush because they happen to disagree with you.

Of course negative things happen in war. No one disputes that--not even President Bush. Read my post again if you need to. I never made any generalizations about Amercians who question the administration. There is, undeniably, a radical left movement in this country that believes that America is the problem, that America is an imperialist aggressor, that America is a global criminal. Those are the people with whom I take issue, and with whom you should also.

A coherent point about why the war was a good thing: The war was not initiated as "a good thing". It was prosecuted as a necessary thing. Just in case everybody has forgotten, the U.N. security council and nearly the entire rest of the world, and nearly all of the Democrats in Congress, including Ted Kennedy and John Kerry, believed Iraq possessed WMD. The war went forward because of widespread military intelligence from all over the world, and because there were 14 resolutions in place compelling Iraq to comply with disarmament and disclosure. THAT was always the central point in the argument for using force.

It turns out, after all, that the war WAS a good thing. You and I and the rest of the armchair geniuses on this board are not in a position to decide that issue; the people in Iraq are, and they have, overwhelmingly. There is no question that they are better off today. Certainly, innocent people have been killed and maimed. When you do what had to be done, there is no way around that. But the man in the street in Iraq will tell you that the price paid during the war is far preferable to the price they paid daily under Saddam Hussein's dictatorship. Didn't you see anything about the election last weekend? It was absolutely flawed, but it was a milestone in that country's history, and no less legitimate. President Bush helped make it happen and, for that, he is to be congratulated.

I realize my last post was not great. I am currently deployed for my second one year rotation and cannot stand to hear people stating how we are killing and torturing so many innocent people. These same people that like to condemn what we are doing, never say anything about how the insurgents are killing there own, or how they decapitated "innocent" Americans. I am just frustrated over hearing so many negative things about what we are doing over here.

Don't listen to Hiroshima and other America haters. I appreciate what you are doing as do the overwhelming majority of Americans. I guess Hiroshima has a soft spot for the Japanese and their WW2 legacy. I'm proud to say that my grandfather earned 3 Bronze Stars fighting the Japs and I'm glad that we nuked them so more of our soldiers wouldn't have to die finishing the war that Japan started. Don't let hiroshima put you on a guilt trip bro.

he had a purple heart you son of a motherless goat.its in the article .you know ,the one i posted .the ARMY TIMES article.the article from the ARMY times.you know ,the united states military.the army times.the things that happen in the army.why are you so silly?are you disabled or somethings?i am sorry if that is the case.but that is no excuse.

So, basically you have no proof that supposedly 5,500 folks have deserted. Standard...folks like you cant back up your claims, so you resort to calling people stupid.

I honestly dont know what the big deal is with a purple heart. You get it because you get hurt, that doesnt make you a better soldier than anybody else. Shit, I got one after I was wounded but I certainly dont consider it to be a medal of honor or something.
