OK, I am in quite a predicament and I am not exactly sure what i should do. Since i left college last week i no longer have access to a "real" gym. By real gym i mean aplace that have squat rack, a bench, or a DBs passed 55lbs. As you can probably figure out i am a memeber of planet fitness, only because the Golds gym that was there when i originally joined downsized into a planet fitness. They have hardly any free weights and everything is smith machines. Under normal circumstances i would join a new gym but i am strapped for cash because i just bought a new car. I have some equiptment at home including: a 5 foot bar, 100lbs of chip weights, 15, 25, 40LB DBs, and a punching bag. Can i use the stuff i have and achieve results?

it is better than nothing for now. better than nothing!!
take advanage of the 55lb dumbells.

and when you get more time and money make the change to a different gym,

Every Smith-stocked gym I've ever used has had a free bar tucked away in the corner somewhere. The Smith is better than nothing but if you can find the bar tucked away, or ask them where it is, then try to keep deadlifts and maybe front squats and overhead pressing in your workout. You need some heavy free work for your stabilizer muscles. Learning to clean the weight to your shoulders will help.

It's taken a long time, but I think Im begining to see why the vets get fustrated reposting the same stuff (sometimes only a couple days after the last) and tell you to run a search. Harsh but true.

true but remember that non plats do not have the search option.

No, your right.

Here's the kind of things I did when in your situation...

- Use dumbells for jump squats. Jump as hard and high as you can for reps.
- Get a chin bar that fits in a door frame (very cheap).
- Fill a regular back pack with weight, feet on bed, hands on floor and push fast and high enough to clap between reps.
- Use the dumbells for crunches.
- Do some A style push ups (so your ass is high in the air, body creating an upside down V shape. You come down onto the top of your head and its great for the shoulders/triceps and traps).

I never came up with an alternative to deads.

- You can use all your bodyweight + dumbell for one legged calf raises. Recently I saw a guy using just one leg to squat his bodyweight on youtube.
- Sprints are also good.
