Lucas wasn't part of this. Landis and Spielberg illegally shot this scene at night with children that weren't supposed to be there. They were coked up, using live ammo, and demanding the copter pilot come in too close.

Some of the live ammo hit the copter, causing it to crash and kill Morrow and the two kids. Speilberg left the scene to sober up while Landis and crew picked up body parts and put them in trash bags.

Landis and Spielberg turned against each other in court. The scene was filmed on Lucas's property and he knew they were doing an illegal scene at night.
