Sorry, I got off topic. I wasn't necessarily referring to this act but gun control and murder in general. I guess having been brought up in a gunless society i am poles apart in thinking on this topic with the majority of Americans.

VG, so what is your solution? Imposing more gun laws won't accomplish anything because criminals will not obey them. The UK is a perfect example of this. The crime in cities in the UK (in which guns are outlawed) is rising steadily while violent crime in the US is actually declining. So much for gun control as a means of crime prevention.

You keep pointing to this statistic of violent crime. What i am talking about is death, not violent crime per se, there is a difference.

Sure, violent crime in Australia has risen as much as anywhere else in the world. What we don't have is anywhere near the number of deaths per capita caused by guns that you have in the U.S. Although i don't have stats for the UK, i'm sure the same would apply.

Are you missing the fact that our neighborhoods with the highest rate of gun ownership have the lowest crime rates? Gun availability is not the exacerbating factor in violent crime and homicide - the violent criminal is.

Washington has strict firearm laws BTW. And look what happened. You're talking about AUstralia ? Then I could talk to you about Canada which has similar laws. Yeah firearms related crimes decreased a lot..... but non-firearms increased so much.... so whats the point ???
