....getting a good back/trap workout...Im on my last set of heavy(for me) shrugs and I am holding the last rep for a max contraction squeeze when the putz beside me gets stuck with 185 on his chest....so he dumps one end of the bar, the plates of which land about 3 inches form my left foot...the crash caused me to jerk my head.....a loud horrendous "SNAP" ensues which was heard as far as 10 feet away.......cant turn my head to the left now.....

Just great

That sounds like you herniated a disc. You might want to see your doctor soon.

recoup, then find the weakling that got owned with my warm up weight and just beat the fucking tar out of him.

Proby just a strain Corn. I get them once in a while and they suck huge. Makes it hard to sleep among other things. But only for two or three days. They always end up going away on their own. 'Least that's been my experience.

due to pain or you actually can't physically move it?

that reall fucking sucks.....sometimes i think the biggest fucking danger in a gym is other people. if i need to walk past someone i either wait until the have finished their lifting or give them a fucking HUGE berth, and it irritates the hell out of me if someone doent do the same (i;ve had someone do stomach crunches on the bench i am sitting down on with dumbells about to flat bench)

the other thing that irritates me is chmps like this not wanting to ask for a spot but rather dumping the bar

p.s. why aren't you seeing a doctor? im sure you know better than anyone snapping isnt the best sound when a muscle is under tension. id guess a tear of muscle, ligament or tendon....im not sure how prone the cervical and thoracic vertabrae are to herniation, plus it doesnt explian why he can turn his head to the right....i would assume

Sometimes I think that too.
Then other times I think its the flamethrowers in the power rack or the bars made of razor blades.. or maybe the spiked seats on the lat pulldown.

nah - due to pain.....immense...drink a 6 pack to make it go away pain

partial tear it seems... long healing times:(

That sucks! I hurt my neck doing rows like 6 years ago I couldn't move my head for a week.

Stretching really helped me out. In the beginning it hurt and movement was extremely limited, oh yeah and icing it often.

Bad part is that it comes back every now and then for a day.

Someones trying too hard to be funny. Just relax, be yourself and try to say smart things, that oughta be worth a few laughs.

This is day one... the pain is going to set in on day three (with the swelling)... and if it is torn you will start to see the black and blue then.

Ah hell... everytime I suggest getting together, you got some lame ass excuse.

nah if it's torn it will be black and blue soon......not three days....my torn pec was immediately noticeable....my torn lat took a couple of hours.....so hopefully it's not torn....sounds more like a strain....if it was torn...it would take more than a six pack to make the pain go away.......

Can you hear a strain though? That's freaky. I hope it comes out to be nothing. My initial thought is it's not going to be great news.

thats why its a good idea to bring your own music to the gym. it drowns out noises and gives you a good excuse to ignore people who want a spot or want to chat about your tips

After my first big car accident in August '01 my neck muscle spasms made my doc give me muscle relaxers along with prescription strength ibuprofen. I was unable to turn my neck halfway to the left. The chiropractor and the physical therapists I dealt with stated it takes roughly 9 months to a year to heal a herniated disc. Even then it is still a risk to rupture.

Is there anything you haven't torn yet?

are ya asking me or Corn???

if me, yeah I have been real luck and not torn a quad or a rotator cuff.....the pec and lat were no big deal....although this whole lat thing is still lingering......

lol at everybody....pain is pretty bad this morning....I took vioxx last night and it helped me sleep but its beginning to wear off

Is it Nech muscle type pain, Or neck Bone type pain ?

Pulled Neck muscle pain is the worst, especially knowing that you are probably walking around looking silly with a stiff neck like Frankenstien.

Thanks Y-lifter I'm surprised no one else has said that yet

As somebody who has 2 x herniated cervical discs, I'd ask these questions:

Do you have tingling in any of your extremities?

Any shooting pain down the arm or into the shoulder girdle area?

If you do, you probably have a herniated disc in the cervical area. If you have any of these symptoms, you can search the web and it will tell you what disc is herniated. From what I've experienced, a Doc will want to get an MRI of the neck to tell how bad the herniation is. I've got one bad one and one that is sorta bad.

Another thing... Is your scapula snapping now? Crunchy and popping? If it is... well, that would be called a "snapping scapula" and it would not be a bad thing. I've got one of those too. There appears to be no way of clinically treating that one.

Hopefully it's just some pulled muscles and not herniations.
