So, I found a kick boxing partner.

We trained, we sparred.
She kicked my butt yesterday.
:worried:

I'm actually waddling around with vibrating buttocks.

And we're having at it again on Tues...

So, anyone kick box?

My weight training has admittedly been crap for sometime now so I've been trying different sports this year for fun and exercise.

I'm going to start as of Monday, so I'm excited to read this post. It sounds like a really fun yet intense cardio workout and right now, I'm in dire need of variety.

I started Muay Thai about a month & a half ago. It is the same as kick boxing, but we also use our elbows & knees. It TOTALLY kicks my butt, everytime! I am willing to bet that a marthon runner (in great cardiovascular condition) has troubles getting through a kick boxing/Muay Thai class...lol.

What did you guys do for training?

I find I get sore from skipping (my calves kill for days) & my back hurts from hitting the bag or sparring (not used to making contact). Oh, once you get used to the kicks your butt stops hurting as bad...lol.

You will have to get some of these:

OMG is that you? Look how adorable you are...

We did plyometric training with a medicine ball after a 15 min run and a 10 min stretch.

The plan is to do it 3 days a week for now and after 6 weeks figure our where I want to go from there.

The Muay Thai has also interested me for a while Muayithaigirl on another board is well versed and I've been drooling over the thought for a while but I haven't found the right place to train locally. :(

No, that's not me. It's a girl modeling the pants at a kickbox store. Sorry, I should have added that! I just wanted you to see the pants...oops :worried: .

Three days a week is plenty to start out. You will love it! Keep us posted !

I took kickboxing classes for almost two years a couple years back as a break from the gym. 2 hours of sparring and training there plus running 5 days a week got me in great shape.

The best part is its a good full body workout, legs/butt (kicks) arms (punches/blocks) and chest (holding the pads) abs (your always holding them tight for protection)

Honestly half of kickboxing is having a good partner who will push you to go harder and you’ll get a workout just from holding the pads for someone who is a strong fighter.
My partner was this chicky that was a dive master in the Navy, insanely powerful.. but man did she motivate me to go hard!

Have fun Velvet, I’m sure you’ll love it! :rose:

Here is a site I got from the Martial Arts forum. It's home workout ideas. It's for Muay Thai, but you could still have a look to learn some of the punches/kicks. The guy uses heavy bags & dummies, but you could just have your partner hold the pads. For front kicks you can just put a mat against the wall.
