I dated for years and then when I found my wife I know that she was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life together. Just give it time, you will know when you meet her.

What was it that made you think, he/she's the one for you?

Tell us your stories - good, bad, good then bad, bad then good, etc...

thought I met the one velvett...we had scary things in common, like the same last 4 didgits in our phone numbers... we got so close that we knew each other inside and out. Could finish each others sentences, we seemed to fall in love everytime we saw each other...just had a great friendship and hot love affair at the same time, seemed like destiney had choosen us...point is as the story turns out we were not ment to be together.

I guess the "one" is not just, romance, increadable lust and that twinkle in the eye stuff. It also has to be about trust and honesty. But I hope that when I do meet the "one" for real, it will be majical.

I think when you meet the "one" it just all comes together so easy. You know, without thinking about it.

I could be wrong on this, but did you accidentally click on the new thread icon instead of the one that says "post reply"?

Nope, but I snagged the quote from another thread because it struck me as well, something interesting to chat about.

:D

That and I'm nosy.

I don't think there is an easy answer.

You follow your heart and your brain in equal parts. When you ignore one over the other, you set yourself up for dissapointment.

I made the mistake of following my heart and ignoring everthing else, and spent almost 2 years in a relationship that went no where and broke my heart.

I guess the key is keeping your eyes open and when you finally have no doubts, that's the one.:)

When I could stay around her all the time and not get annoyed with her. It just feels right... I knew about a month in... pretty quick actually.

It's great... bottom line.

Velvett,

I play chess at the beach with a man we call "The Professor." He is an actual professor of romance languages and graduated from Harvard with Highest Honors. Some time ago while we were playing he started musing on one of the Greek philosopher's definition of love... and that it was arbitrary. For whatever happenstance reason two people decide to throw their lot together. He might like how she sings or sews. She might just like the fact that he doesn't spit while he chews. The true test/definition of love comes afterwards... in how they face the trails and tribulations of the world together.

That is why when I hear people asking how they can tell if someone is the right one for them I can only think... instead of going out for a romantic dinner - volunteer one night together on your first date to work the Friday evening shift in the ER. The Emergency Room does take helping hand volunteers... and you are going to have a really good idea of how you would both face the world together after just that one date.

Interesting point of view SofaGeorge... and I do agree that most believe that "the one" is recognized by romance and chemical attraction...

I heartly disagree with this notion.

I also disagree with the notion of "the one".

I believe that people are brought into and taken out of our lives for VERY SPECIFIC purposes. We are all here to learn - NOT TO SUFFER (I firmly believed in the "suffering notion" as a result of my staunch/hardworking protestant upbringing - hence my first marriage... well not totally - LOL).

I believe that souls wander searching for enlightenment. When two souls connect it is for a specific purpose - we all are all here to learn and share.

I still don't know if my wife is "The one" or not, or my "Soulmate", actually I think that's a crock of shit but I really like her company and she is one of the very few people I have ever met that do not annoy the piss out of me 24/7.

Thats cool to read homie. peace

When I'm around her I know that everything will be okay, no matter what. It's not romantic or mystical , it's a feeling of calmness and confidence. I know that we can make it through anything together, and I know that as long as I'm with her, I can just slow down, take a deep breath, and live life.

The great lesson you learn by losing your "true love" is that if you have the capacity to love - you have the capacity to love many people.

If you want a illustration of this, I'll send it to you off board.

I can think of three men I would be quite happy with at this current time.

hmmm.

Now if they could all be happy with each other at the same time...

Good post bigguns! This is the way I feel also. I really can't expand on it more than bigguns said.
