Smoking and bodybuilding....any thoughts?

Ive always smoked...since prolly 8th grade. I got up to a pack and a half a day by senior year (5'11" - 145lbs). In college i started getting super serious about lifting. After i graduated college (2 yr skool, 176lbs.) i got even more into lifting, and started getting smart about suppliments and eating habits. In february (186lbs) I decided to quit, or at least hold off for a while so i bulk up and try to better my body (its a fact that when people quit they tend to eat more and gain weight) In my time off, i did a huge stack of 1-ad and androstack for 5 weeks. My gains skyrocketed. My bench went up to 345lbs for 3 clean, quats went up to 435lbs for 7 clean squats. Im weight is now up to 200lbs.

Now, the problem is, i just got back from the beach with 17 of my friends. In that whole week, i got piss drunk everynight i was there (gimme a break it was my first vacation in 3 years). Being drunk, i got a urge for a smoke, and it all started up again. I started smoking a pack a day i was there, and even now that im home, i went out and bought a pack last night, and smoked a few.

So, basically my question is, is it possible to keep, or even better my gains, even thought smoking is hindering my eating patterns?? Smoking makes ME lose weight....Is there a way around this??

Any thoughts???

Only one way I know, quit. I smoked for about 15 years and I have been smoke free for 2-1/2 years now. I get drunk every now and then. You just gotta fight that damn urge. You just got to think to yourself that without smoking your gains will be a lot better. The reason I quit was because it just didn't make any sense to smoke and lift. All your doing is retarding your gains. Since I quit my gains have just kept going up.

Good luck!

There are SO many reasons not to smoke. Besides retarding your gains in the gym, harming your health, etc., the #1 reason not to smoke is the horrendous B.O. (body odor) it gives you.

Smokers can't smell it on themselves or on other smokers, but believe me, to those of us who don't smoke, smoking makes you, your car, your house - everything about you - reek. Even if you're not actually smoking, freshly showered, etc., you'll still smell, because all that smoke, nicotine, etc. is coming from inside your body, seeping from every pore.

Sorry to be on the harsh side, but I hope it'll convince you to quit.

why would ANYBODY, much less a bodybuilder into their appeareance and health, CHOOSE to shorten and lessen their lifespan, appearance and social desireability by smoking?

DUH!

DUMBASSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :nopity:

sorry----

just a comment on human stupidity in general; not aimed at any one person.

Let me just say first that no one should comment one this post unless they are a former smoker or a smoker.
And no this man is not a dumbass you are. For making a comment that you know nothing of. Yes its harmfull and it smells. But usually when people start they are young and stupid and by the time they wanna quit it too late. It takes alot to stop. No one is stupid for doing it. People just make mistakes.
Now instead of pissing the guy off why dont you try and help him?
From my own experiance it is very hard bro. You cant just have one here and there. You must quit cold turkey. Ive been off for almost a year and i couldnt feel better. You know that you cant get around it so just quit. Its a stimulant so it is holding you back from growing even when you force your self to eat good.
Good luck man and drop that shit cold turkey!
Oh yeah and where are you from in PA?

smokes and BB's, I can gian muscle no problem, I went from 170 to 195 in 7 months, lean, I will be quiting soon, I smoke off and on, more on though, lol

I smoke alot too weed and cigs. Now I still run and workout and still get results to the point where people will compliment me.But in all honesty I know deep down my gains could probably be alot better if i quit smoking.Cigs that is Weed I will not sorry cant do it no way no how...

the best way to quit is not to be around others that do it. thats how i quit, or stopped at least. I stay away from it and the cravings go away, but i was a pack a week, not a day.
