Smily's ...do they influence you?

:rainbow:As some of you know I start out all my post with :rainbow:
Does this in any shape form or fashion lead you to believe that I'm not being serious with my comments?
If so ...can you please tell me why? I have gotten some slack about it in the past, and as rescently as yesterday.....

Never really thought about it, there fruity pants (just kidding...). Why do you start your posts like that?
I think of it like an introduction as to who I am. Kind of like my trade mark. I think if it were anything other than a :rainbow: , then I would not ever get questioned about my post. ...thanks for your asking?... ;)

My only reservation would be this (and I have stated this before) - I will never understand ANY "minority" or group that complains about or fights against discrimination and being labeled, then labels itself. For example, many homosexuals claim they just want people to treat them as a "person", and not judge them by their sexual orientation. Yet, these same people put rainbow stickers on their cars and march in gay pride parades, thereby doing the exact thing they want others to refrain from! It always baffled me. Not saying you do this, just bringing it up.

Absolutely zero flamage here, but he does have a good point. Best way to be "treated like anyone else" is to not call yourself out as being part of a minority. I'm not suggesting for a second that anyone deny it, hide it, minimize it or belittle it -- just no need to call it out :)

:rainbow: Very good question. hummm..difficult to explain, but I will do my best.
Let's go back in time a little, back to when women were fighting for their rights as human beings. They wore buttons on their clothes, expresssing their "right to vote" . They also marched in deminstrations to show the numbers that it involved. They came together, as a whole group fighting for what they believed in. Once everyone realized that is was the right thing to do, every woman in the US was allowed to vote. It was then, that all the buttons and marches stopped. They were finally reconized as group of people who where not to be ignored or thought less of, only because of their sex. They were to be respected as intelegent as the men .
Our whole history is filled with people displaying who they are , until they were respected as a whole.
It's my belief that once the Gay population is respected completely as a whole. That our displays will no longer exist.
The whole world uses displays to express who they are. Here in the south, you will see those who like to hunt, will have a symbol of a buck on their truck windows. Those that still think the south will rise again, still use the confederate flag as their show of support. People from other countries use stickers of flags from where they come from, to show they are proud of their country. Some African American, like to were only fabrics and colors of their native country.
The list is endless.
It's boils down to getting respect. I use my :rainbow: so that evryone know that my opionion is that of a man, and not one of a straight man. As it is obvious they vary greatly.
Well I hope it kind of helps explain my view on to why I use the :rainbow:
Loved the question....

I understand what you are saying, and completely respect the rights of any group to free assembly. However, my point is that no group has the right to damn others for labeling them, but label themselves when it is convenient for them. Shit, if the gay guy next to me didn't drive around with a rainbow flag and constantly talk about how he is gay, I wouldn't see him as a gay man, but as a man. But that is impossible to do when he continues to label himself, yet complain when others do THE EXACT SAME THING in a negative way. You can't have your cake and eat it too. I just can't lend any empathy to a group that labels themselves but cries when others do the same thing. It's another story if that group labels themselves and doesn't complain about others doing the same thing, ya know? And I realize that these group "movements" are needed in order to create progress in the way our world/society thinks and acts, but I can't help but see the blaring irony in the situation.

Putting a label on your opinion does little in earning respect. At least from me. I don't need to know you're gay. As long as what you're saying makes sense and means something.

Just seems like you should either self-identify and be ready and completely empathetic of whatever gets thrown your way... Or don't self-identify and be offended when people feel the need to single you out or treat you differently from anyone else.

Heck... I enjoy licking the kitty (it's a near-fetish thing!) -- but you ain't gonna see me putting that on my car's rear bumper!

It's nice to know that you aren't swade by an icon. Let me put it another way. I have seen where people post things on this forum. Asking question, replying to questions..etc. Then with in that generalized area, someone will come along and say... " you must be Gay" .."sounds gay to me ", " looks gay to me" or use the Gay smily as a form of being disrespectful. I don't mind people calling me Gay. It's when they use it in a way that is disrespectful. I had one person tell me that he doen't take my post as being serious, because I use my :rainbow: . If I should post something without my smily that makes them .. think..."he must be Gay". I take that assumption away right in the begining by using my smily.

:rainbow: I am who I am, and I believe I have self-identified that fact. I'm just want to understand why people preseve "Gay" as a negative thing. Should I not ask seek answers to their comments?

Some people just won't ever accept homosexual behavior for a number of reasons (religion, homophobia, etc. etc.). Expecting them to see it as a non-negative thing is actually unfair. Expecting them to be tolerant and not act (i.e. discrimination, violence) on thier particular view regarding homosexual behavior is well... expected!

Incidentally, in protest to Hammy's narrow-minded cunnilingophobe attitude, I will be including newly designated emblem of Kitty Lickers far and wide -- the :licker: emote!!!

:licker: :licker: :licker: :licker: :licker: :licker: :licker: :licker: :licker: :licker:

Take that! I'm calling you out!
