Small apartment in decent area vs. big apartment close to ghetto

As I've posted before, within 2 blocks of my current apartment there have been 4 shooting incidents resulting in 5 dead and one wounded cop. I want to get the hell out of there. The neighborhood is going to pot (actually, it's going to crack).

The problem is my current rent budget will only allow for a small apartment in a nicer area. The new apartment I'm looking at is probably about 2/3 the size of my current one. I'll be going from two bedrooms to one. However, the neighborhood is a few notches up in class even though it's only about half a mile away. The apartment complex is much more modern and it's a gate community so only residents and their guests can get inside the complex. The place is run by a rental company and has a full time on site manager. My current apartment is run by an individual that works full time at another job and just rents a few apartments on the side.

Would you sacrifice space for comfort?

SMALL APARTMENT. I wouldn't think twice! :Chef: :tuc:

Another vote for quality. If you widen your search radius, you might be able to find a nice, decent sized place.

dude, you got people getting murdered on your block and pitbulls chasing you all around town..get out of the ghetto.

I should sell you my vest that i don't use anymore...move out of the current...cause its not going to matter which apt you choose if you become a statistic...

Yeah, my parents think moving is the best idea too. I've pretty much decided on moving. I just had two punk kids move in below me. They've already gotten on my last nerve with their music. My floor shouldn't be vibrating all day and night.

When I bought my house I had the same choice to make.
I could afford a small house in the nice neighborhood vs big house in crummy neighborhood.
I visited a county sherrif website showing crime statistics by zip code.
It was an easy decision.
My small house in a nice neighborhood has ZERO crime.
I frequently forget and go to work leaving my front door unlocked.
It's a nice feeling.
At my previous place I woke up late in the night and saw a man's hand reaching
for the doorknob. It was a french door with glass panes...
I was sleeping less than 5 feet away...I gasped, he heard me and ran off.

OK, I made a verbal commitment to the new place and it is being reserved for me. I've scheduled a moving company to carry my furniture. My TV weighs 180 lbs and cost $1400. I want someone with insurance to carry it up the stairs. It's worth the $350 to hire some pros.

John, you definitely made the right choice for a buyer. Ghetto real estate is probably the only real estate that will decrease in value.
