Sleeping lately = not me.

How do you slapdicks fall asleep and stay asleep (no dopo)? I've stopped taking benadryl because I'd been having to take more to sleep and the effects the next day sucked. I'd shake and just not feel right. It's been a couple of months since I stopped, so I don't know what's causing this lately. I'll fallasleep ok, but then I'll hear the baby stir, I'll check on her, and then I can't fully fall asleep again. I just lay there, barely not sleeping but aware of everything around me. I'm completely fried lately and it's fucking with me. I don't want anything that could be habit forming, because I'm a habit picking up kinda personality.

ZMA. I don't wake up in the middle of the night with it.

The sleep agent in Tylenol PM is the same as Benadryl and all other OTC sleep aids (i.e. diphenhydramine HCL). Prescription Elavil will knock you flat on your ass & it's cheap and non-habit forming.

When I'm feeling a bit restless I'll take a couple tylenol pm. Its strong enough to help me fall asleep and stay asleep yet I wake up just fine the next morning. It's also non habit forming

That kinda limits your options, doesn't it?
Hitting gym helps. Proper breathing techniques are good too. That's about all I got.
Sucks when your body's wiped but the head won't stop for whatever reasons.
I think most new parents learn to adapt to sleep deprivation.

Yeah, I've been working out, but they're always rushed so i can get home and help out with kiddo. My whole inner timer has been thrown for a loop.

This always works for me:

while you are laying there, start with your toes and completely relax the muscles your toes, feet, working up slowly to your neck and shoulders not skipping a body part whatever whatever. While you are doing this picture yourself slowly falling into the mattress, further further down as you relax into the mattress, below the bed into a deep black relaxing hole. Only think about relaxing and slowly falling.

i know it sounds like a wierd thing to do, but i was surprised.

Bustin' a nutt is the best sleep remedy imo.

I've tried things like that, but my mind refuses to shut off. I'll feel myself drifting off and then I immediately shift my focus onto a file I've been working on.

A glass of warm milk :p

Welcome to sleeplessness for the next several years. First it is that whole newborn thing, then it will be teething, then it will be they can stand up and want to play/scream all night long, then it will be potty-training, then it will be that they literally jump out of the crib, then it will be (maybe) another baby messing w/your world, then off to school...

You get used to it.

Sex helps but if you aren't really getting along with your mate that is sorta out of the question.

Don't know what to tell you except try reading perhaps? When I couldn't sleep for shit I would surf elite... I suppose even though I really can't offer you much in the way of what to do, what you are experiencing is VERY normal. :whatever: I would think there was something wrong with you if you COULD sleep. LOL

I had suffered from night terrors for over 20 years. Since I have been laying next to my husband and *our world* is becoming more stable (getting the girls and the finances getting more stable) I have NO TROUBLE getting to sleep... NONE.

Whoa night terrors. My friend's sister has those and I remember crashing at his house when I was young and she started screaming. I thought a serial killer was going to kill us all.

Sounds like you are under a lot of stress and need to get it under control. Active mind = bad. You need to learn some techniques to shut it off.

My girlfriend has ths problem badly and I know when we move in together it's going to drive me nuts because I sleep like a champion.

Do something really boring. it's really not a good idea to start surfing the internet(your mind will always find something to search for) or delve into an engrossing novel just before bedtime. Instead, tackle a boring task like doing paperwork or the dishes or something. You could also read a few pages of a difficult book or skim a work-related document(don't do this if your know your going to be think about work afterwords i think) anyways choose something tha wont leave you saying three hours later "WTF its 2 o'clock alreay?!?"

okay here's another one, taking a nice warm bath. its an excellent way to dissolve tensions and leave the day behind. It has a paradoxical effect: the warm water rises your body temperature at first, but then later on makes it drop faster, easing your way into the night by making you feel sleepy. But don't take it just before going to bed for that same reason.

well those work for me most of the time anyways.:)

oh did i mention massages! they're the best! uuummmm massages:p

must be pretty boring conversations!j/k
the net helps me fall asleep, but i have to be pretty tired and worn out to begin with and i'm already partially asleep. otherwise surfing the net chatting and stuff doesn't work for me.

and like i said about the book, depends on which one i read. if i start a really engaging novel, i have a hard time putting it down. so something that doesn't suck you in is best, that ways you partially detached and it helps clear away other thoughts that may keep you awake too.

Lunesta is always good to me. All others, even Tylenol PM, makes me feel drugged-out.

Bath, Book, Sex, bed. I always have the temptation to squeeze in a post sexytime snacky poo but am learning it's not that good for my bodyfat. Anyway, for real, it helps but it requires a willing partner and sometimes that's hard.

lol...welcome to parenthood, daddy-o! I was like that too. Used to wake up at every little stir he made. By 8 weeks we tried putting him on his tummy to sleep...and he started sleeping 6-7 hours a night. By 3 months he was sleeping 8 hours a night. He's 3.75 months and sleeps 8.5-9 hours a night now.

He sleeps SO much better on his belly. I know, all the "experts" say to only let them sleep on their backs, but I and my 3 siblings and my wife and her 2 siblings all slept on our bellies as babies. Most everyone above 15 or so were put to sleep on their bellies too.

They say since recommending putting children to sleep on their backs, SIDS has decreased by (some number percentage). But, I say it could just be due to more SIDS awareness. Babies have died from SIDS sleeping sitting in car seats or swings. SIDS is not suffocation by the way, that is seperate. Anyway...food for though. I sleep great. :D

melatonin has been helping me

yes

try 1.5mg, see if that works and if you feel like shit the next morning

3mg puts me out and i don't feel crappy the next day

I was taking 12mg and 3 benadryl for a while. I upped it to 15mg and cut the benadryl, but that's stopped working. Depressants don't affect me the way they do most people.

I thought about this a lot last night, and when it comes down to it, I've been managing stress horribly. My cardio has been half-assed, my workouts have been rushed, as always, I've been taking on twice as much work as I should and then push myself to the brink of sanity to get it all done, I've let my diet slip, and I've been drinking more than I should. So I'm basically going to change all of that. I honestly think the hardest thing will be cutting back at work. I feel like if I'm not retarded busy the whole day, there's something I'm not doing. I need to take my dog for more walks too.
