Sissy Squats

the good thief

New member
If you have done the exercise, how have you gone about adding weight?

I have held a 35 lb. plate against my chest with one arm but do not see myself going much heavier unless I found a better way...

I have read about athletes adding 200lb.+ to the movement, but I'm not sure how they brace the weight? Any suggestions?

Well...there is a special piece of equipment that you actually do a sissy squat in, then with hands free you can hold more weight. It is a small foot platform with a rounded pad in front and back that is adjustable up and down dependent on your height.

Otherwise - you have to hold low onto something and this makes it more difficult to add weight. I think there is a such thing as a weight vest? Or maybe strap up a dip belt with some weight around you??

Its not really meant to be so much of a weighted exercise as it is a 'finishing exercise'. Try doing a set of leg extensions and then immediately doing sissy squats after. It is a punishing little combo. Good luck!

sissy squats done holding on to something to balance and the actual sissy squat piece of equipment are 2 different monsters. i don't see doing very much weight with the free motion version, since its basically a bodyweight leg extension. the equipment version is basically a squat/leg extension that is very quad dominant. i'd save that one for the weight...maybe.
