Silva vs. Lidell

Silva, KO via viscious knee strikes, the man is an animal. Im going to have to find a way to watch this live.
 
how's silva's striking? Im thinking lidell by quick knockout unless silva can outbox him (doubt it)
 
dont underestimate silva...the dude is an animal..i would love to see chuck mop the floor with him but I dont think it will happen..It is going to be fun to see how it unfolds
 
Chuck still has to go through Babalu, Silva has to get through the open weight grand prix in September. If it happens i'm going with Silva due to TKO by brutal knees.
 
SILVA, hes just a better all around fighter!!! chuck hardly goes to the ground, not saying hes not good there but am saying hes not close to the skill as silva
and on to the standing game, anyone that say chucks is any better is stupid

Either way this promises to be an exciting fight. If there were a fantasy fight league most people would have made this match up as the Clash of the Titans at 205. I am very impressed with Dana White in making this happen, I'm sure it was no small feat to negotiate with PRIDE to share fighters, both in their prime to go at it in the ring.

As much as I like Chuck I will have to give the edge to Wanderlei in this fight. Wandy has faced some brutal competition in both his weight class and against much heavier opponents (Fujita, Mark Hunt, Cro Cop). Chuck is dominant in the UFC but relatively speaking he is the big fish in the small pond.

Silva is a total animal in the ring. Punching, kicking, knees, elbows just pure aggression is a densely muscled fighting machine. Chuck has a punchers chance at a KO but I think Wandy is just too well rounded to lose this one.

I hope they can put together an interesting undercard for this fight. The last UFC was quite dissapointing. Maybe the Hughes vs. GSP rematch? Please!
 
Lidell by KO is my guess. Their styles match to make an exciting fight. Silva is an offensive juggernaught during standup. Lidell is a hard punching counterstriker. What will bring Chuck the win is his iron jaw and greater one-shot KO power during exchanges. Silva may be able to drop Lidell late or win a decision victory as Silva's cardio is top tier.
 
Dude I dont knwo much about Wandilea Silva but I do know Chuck Lidell has KO power and many compare Silva to our version of Randy Cotoure and Lidell has had his way with him lately. I love Lidell's style, same as mine balls to the freckin wall and get him outta their as fast as possible.

Someone tell me about Silva, I dont know too much.

Tough call on this fight, but I'm sure as hell not missing it. At 6'2, I'd think Chuck has the reach advantage over Wanerlei at 5'11. And the way these two swing, that could very well be the deciding factor.

Oh I'll figure something out, cause that's one fight I DON'T want to miss. I am working the nightshift Aug 26th (fuck, that's like 5 UFCs in a row), so as soon as I find out the date for the Silva vs Lidell fight, I'll be looking for a trade to work my shift if I'm working ;)

Silva is nothing like randy, and if you like balls to the wall he is your man NOT chuck. Hes fought much better and much heavier competition than chuck. Do yourself a fav. and watch the liddell vs. rampage jackson fight, then watch silva vs jackson (either 1, or 2 with two being much more brutal). It will be a good fight but wanderlei is going to win this one. As far as KO power goes, wand is the first person (fedor couldnt even do it) to KO Ironhead fujita, and he weighed 35lbs less than fujita at the time. And being ko'd? hasnt happened in 8 years with fights against the likes of saku (3 times), MARK HUNT, CRO-COP, rampage (twice), arona, and fujita. Wand by KO in round 2.
 
chuck will lose this fight to the dismay of all the UFC fans, sorry. Wanderlei is in a different league. Striking, ground game, cardio are all on silva's side.

and if Tim Silvia is a coach for TUF 4 i will never watch a UFC fight again

Now about silva vs liddel. Silva is going to spank chuck. The only concern I see with this fight is the change in rules from pride to the ufc. When Silva was in the ufc 10 years ago(atleast it seems that way) tito beat him. Wanderlei Silva is one of the greatest fighters of all time imo.

Ive heard watch the lidell/ rampage fight then watch the silva/ rampage fight by everyone so far but in my opinion thats not a fair assesment to judge whos a better fighter on that night and style match ups. Ive seen Lennox get Ko'd by rahman but lennox dominated Iron mike and that doesnt tell me rahman was anywhere near the level Iron mike fought at or better. Thats the great thing about fighting, whos the better fighter on that night and what style had the advantage.

And I ve seen mark hunt fight, decent fighter but thats also hard to believe that a guy like him knocked out the best fighter in the sport...

Im no fan of anyone in particular, Im a professional myself so I dont really have time to follow fighter's career but I do have admiration for certain people in boxing past, present, and future. But as far as this style of fighting it makes it fun to watch with all the brawling.

Ive been seeing alot of this debt collector guy lately, LMFAO. What a joke. This juice maniac comes into the ring like 6'7 270lbs. has the hardest stare in the sport, acts bad as hell, gets right in your face, and then proceeds to get beat down... He lost all 3 fights I watched and 2 by KO, my man has the most terrible hand skills Ive seen in professional fighting (any style). In my opinion he's just a big dude, thats it! Theres alot of big guys at any gym and even on this site but that doesnt mean they know how to fight. Im just wondering who the hell he beat to get where he did?! To me he is very uncoordinated and nothing but a big punching bag. lol.

Anyway tell me more or give me some links to this Sliva dude, give me some substance for this maniac.

OMFG I agree, again Im not an MMA fighter, boxer only, but that dudes the heavyweight champ!!! He looks liek a big out of shape whale. He disappointed the hell out of me with Arlovski last weekend. His build is awful and hes known as a big puncher or striker as they call it, bro he's wearing 4oz. gloves. I have batting gloves that are 4.2 oz's.

LMFAO!!! How does this guy even get fights in pride?? He's a joke!! You're 100% correct in your assessment of his striking skills. I think I would actually take a free punch from that guy.....his technique is so terrible he can't generate any power unless he's lunging his whole body forward.....at which point he usually gets it right to the face. Does anyone know how Mr. Debt Collector <snicker> came up through the ranks? Maybe I'm just not seeing his hidden talent?

His hands are down at his waist, when the opposing fighter presents an opening hes miles too late getting to it because hes too stiff from still trying to have a BBers physique,sloppy foot work, terrible grappler. If Silva takes the fight to the ground, he'll win, if he can get close enough without getting knuckled up. If he stands up with Lidell, he will get bitch slapped. I say Lidell regardless.

dude, liddell stood up with wanderlie before and got lit the fuck up, are you kidding me, i think bitch slapped is a bit rediculous. chuck is better now than he was when he fought silva the first time, but like i said before silva is in a different league.

You cannot compare fights like that.

Thats like comparing Wanderlei V Belfort, Belfort winning in under 1 minute my TKO then Chuck fighting Belfort and winning by decision. Or Wanderlei V Ortiz. Ortiz won by decision yet Chuck Ko Tito.

Going to be a intresting fight both are super strong and i do agree that Wanderlei is a more rounded fighter but this is a similar situation a few years back when Alistair Overeem was big favourite but ended up getting his ass Ko`d.

The Japanese promotions like Pride and K-1 like to promote giants for entertainment purposes. James Thompson, the debt collector, is just another big body. If you think his skills are minimal, you should see Giant Silva. He's 7'7" of unco-ordination.

Silva will kick his ass. Personally I don't think chuck will get pass Sobral. I know everyone thinks chuck is god in the octagon, but he is very much a one dimensional fighter. Yes he is good at what he does, but in my opinion he misrepresents the true essence of MMA. Now if u like barfighters or whatever then chuck's your man!

Hunt has never ko'd fedor, and fedor IS the best fighter in the sport w/o question.
 
Silva has got this fight. He's just a better all around fighter. On his feet, his strikes, his knees etc... Chuck's ground game isn't as well verses as Silva's and he ususally wins by a one strike knockout to a weaker opponent. Silva is going to take it in less than three rounds. What I like about Silva's character is his stare down at the begining of the fight with his opponent. He gives out this menacing stare that could kill. Fucking love it.
 
My opinion has changed. After seeing the beating Silva put on Ironhead, I'm speechless. Silva is pure pressure. I don't think Chuck will be able to set his feet to counter. Good fight though. Silva by mid TKO. Perhaps we'll see Chuck use his ground game.
 
Yes, Lidell has fought Sobral. It is when chuck KO'ed him w/ a high kick. It was in UFC. Since then Sobral has won 10 straight fights! :)
 
yup, you guys are right, i dont know why i thought he fought silva. i swear i remember watching it lol. i am sure im thinking about is fight against rampage.

but my opinion about the fight still doesnt change, silva takes it via KO

Belts are highly overrated... that being said... I do agree with you that Silva would most likely be better on the ground... although he only has 2 legitimate submission wins.

I think Silva is the better fighter, but I think it will be a good fight. I can only go on how well Chuck did against Rampage and how Silva did against Rampage. If thats an indicator.... Chuck is fucked.

And a lot of successful wrestlers with no bjj ranking have demolished bjj guys via ground and pound ie Tito vs. Elvis Sinosic and Randy Couture vs. Vitor Belfort III. I think Chuck is a former Div I wrestler.

My mistake. However is site says hes ranked number 1 in the world, what is he ranked number 1 in the world in though? Also look at fujita (who is a good wrestler and outweighed silva by 35lbs) silva handled him on the ground quite well against fujita. In any event i have wand winning this one unless chuck uses his magical "kempo thumbs".

Fujita is an ironheaded bull with decent wrestling skills, tons of heart, and nothing else. Chuck is a granite chinned powerpuncher with legit kickboxing ability and Div I wrestling skills. James 'the debt collector' Thompson almost took out Fujita. To atribute Chuck's KO of Tito, another top level fighter, to a mystery eyepoke is to ignore the 8+ punch combo Chuck unloaded when he backed Tito up against the cage.

I don't remember there being much groundwork during the Fujita/Silva fight.

Chuck's team rank him as the world's #1 LHW MMA guy I would think.

I do also think Wanderlei wins also though because he is an effective pressure fighter, can probably hold his own on the ground, has experience against more top flight competition, and is more consistently in peak cardio shape.
 
the good thing about this fight is it will open the eyes of all of the TUF fans of other organizations. most of the fans now are very new and think that UFC is the end all of MMA. I think Chuck has a tough fight ahead of him and I don't know if he'll win. Silva will most definitely get the "accidental" fingers in the eye just like Randy, Tito and probably other tough fighters chuck goes against.
 
I really dont know how Chuck will knock him out if Cro Cop and in 5 rounds. I have a hard time believing that chuck can strike harder than Cro Cop or Rampage Jackson. I would love to see chuck try to fight a HW.
 
While we battle back and forth trying to voice opinion on how 'our guy' will win, who here doesn't believe this one has "fight of the year" written all over it?
 
definatly will go down as a classic, no doubt about it. unless somebody gets KO'ed in like 30 secs...which could very well happen with these two.
 
Definitely fight of the year. No question.

Chuck doesn't seem to like pressure and gets aggravated it seems. And that's pretty much "The Axe Murderers" game plan. LoL Full on, in your face, striking from all kinds of angles. I see this being a blood bath, with Chuck eventually getting KTFO. I hope it goes the distance though and we see an all out war regardless of who wins.

Ugh your gonna make me work for this ok. (btw the 2nd coture fight there was an eyepoke i dont know how the hell you missed it, they fing stopped the fight for a few secs bc of it.)

Anyway im sure i can dig you up so photos, a good 6 or more fighters have complained of this, and that includes some who have wins over him.

the lidell/rampage fight is NOT an indicator of how this fight will go.....two completely different fighters at different stages in their carreer. Everyone remembers what Tito did to wand.....what would happen if tito and silva fought now?...I'll tell ya, huntington beach gets to to sample the bottom of wand's foot. The one thing chuck has going for him is that the fight is in the octagon.....which is completely different from pride's stupid boxing ring. The octagon is a true MMA arena.....this is chuck's house right now. That being said.....chuck hasn't fought anyone like wand. It will be good...even if it's short. But chuck going ground?? I don't think so.....stand and bang!!
 
Wandy is not a black belt in ju jitsu to my recolections.

whats with this liddel having an iron chin? when has this been proven? hes been knocked out by conture besides that whos ever gotten the chance to test his chin?

wandy has a very strong chin which has been proven by all the shots he absorbed from rampage who is a very powerful and good striker along with hunt and cro cop.

They fight will stay standing i think wandy will win either second or third round.

u cant compair any of the previous fights cause all the fighters have gotten better.

vitor would have a very good chance of beating them both. i think tito has a better chance at wandy cause tito is gnp and very strong and healthy. I think liddel would most likely beat out tito now but it could go either way. Also i think babalu liddel is gonna be an awsome fight and im routing for babalu.

this is gonna be a fight for the ages.
 
Hehehe pretty convincing pictures, Ian :) While I'm a fan of Chuck's, I do have to wonder why the hell his hand are open, in his opponent's face, when he clearly should have a fist in their face, instead.

Intentional or not, it's not a good reputation to be following around the LHW champ....
 
Lol i dont dislike chuck, but the eye thing is getting a little ridiculous im pretty sure if i felt the need i could come up with 6 or so fighters complaining bout it.
 
does anyone have pictures from another fight with lidell's fingers in someone's eyesocket? I have to admit, that picture is suspicious. I mean, it is MMA....so guys are trying to control their opponents head.....it would be interesting to have a few stills leading up to the eye gouge, then you might be able to gauge lidell's intentions when he let his arm out...who knows?

actually I said there WAS an eyepoke inthe second fight
it's the third and the tito fight I didn't see any eyepoke

I got Chuck on this one. Silva is damn good, no doubt, but he is much to cocky to win against someone who hits like Liddell.

Silva is to cocky to win against someone who hits like Lidell? I'm pretty sure Mark Hunt may hit a little harder than Chuck, even though Silva lost a split decision he showed he can hang with a hw striker. I hope the fight happens because I will be there, and I hope it's in Vegas
