godamnit. just got back from the doctors and i might have mono. I was deathly ill like 2 weeks ago, wtf is wrong with me? last time, I lost about 6 lbs that week b/c of lack of appetite/throwing up/waterweight, and just gained it back. anyone ever had any experience with mono? will it be a serious setback? will i be able to train? eat? sorry for the bombardment but im just frustrated. dont want to go down in flames over the break

I had mono about 12 years ago. I had a wicked sore throat and was very tired. I got tested and they found I had mono. I guess there is no real cure for it other then rest and I was prescribed stress tabs(a multivitamin). I just rested and felt better in a few weeks. After that I was very thin and weak. I started my first real solid weight training and added 30lbs in one year. I know it sucks to take time away from lifting, but you need to rest up for awhile. You are going to have to rest for 3-4 weeks, with little to no sport type activities. Just get to 100% and then go hard working out, you will gain everything back by summertime!!

I had mono when I was 18-20 and lost 30lbs and couldn't train and felt like my life was over. My advice to you would be: DONT get sick. Take a short vacation and enjoy yourself and then come back as if you feel great - do things that are good for you like yoga and drinking green tea. Whatever you do dont drink. Come back to the weights with the ideology that you are doing it to improve your health - not you lifts, and have a few months of moderate intensity training. May make all the difference.

yikes. i felt like my life was over when i lost 6 lbs. i think its too late for getting sick, but i havent gotten tested for mono yet, just his suspicion. If my throat doesnt clear up by monday its probably mono. and strangely enough, i havent really been in a stressful/unenjoyable enviroment. i dont drink, but i might start with green tea.

I had mono about 4-5 years ago. I went from 200-205 down to 175-180 in a matter of weeks. It sucks bad. Go get checked out, it might not be mono. I can remember my throat hurt worse than anything I had had before, that's what got me to the doctor. Like Micker said, if you do have it, you need to get some serious rest, no training for a weeks, to get better.
