Shoulder popped out

Anyone ever popped their shoulder out only for it to go straight back in (i.e. partial dislocation)? This happened to me yesterday (playing sport) and now i can't even put my coat on without sharp pain. I can move it up and down but not from side to side.

Am hoping that this will heal quickly and that it won't become a regular occurance.

Both of mine used to all the time especially when throowing something like a baseball or football. I could throw light passes but can't throw to hard or my arm goes with it. Most of my problem was because my rear delts were alot weaker than the front and side so I had no strength in those muscles to keep my shounders in socket. I started doing more rear delt exercises and haven't had it pop out in 2 yrs now.

good luck. Ive had numerous dislocations to both shoulders and both knees over the years. you should have it xrayed to ensure it's properly gone back into the socket - otherwise you're in for a world of pain and fuckedupedness.

you should immobilize it for a few weeks in a sling so that the ligaments/tendons can heal cuz they have surely been stretched/strained and until they are healed, you run the risk of repeated dislocations. fuck it hurts so bad.

did you pop it back in yourself? or did it go back in on it's own? ive had both scenarios. popping that sucker back in manually is a bitch and a half. you will have very limited range of motion for some weeks so be careful.

has this ever happened to you before? some people have laxity in their joints. ive been lucky in the last few years not to have had any incidents but i have come close depending on what exercise Im doing - say NO to Behind the Neck OHP and Overhead tricep extensions or Skull crushers.

get it looked at. that's my best advice coming from someone with direct experience.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah i went and got it x-rayed just after i posted and from the x-ray it seems to be in place. The only thing is that the x-ray had to be done in a position where it felt 'in place' but it's when i move it from side to side that it feels like it pops out.

The doctor said to try and do very gentle exercise with it but nothing strenuous. I may be an idiot but i'm actually moving it about (although very gently) as much as possible. I need to be back playing sport asap and i just hope that i can start rehab and strengthening exercises soon. If it feels like too much to soon though then i'll stop.

Do you (or anyone else) have any ideas about rehab for shoulder dislocations?

I think it may be down to the fact that i was doing a lot of shoulder raises to the front but nothing to the side. Maybe that caused an imbalance.

honestly, i never did proper rehab after any of my dislocation injuries and I'm paying the price now - mostly with severely fucked up knees. did the doc mention anything about immobilizing it for the time being? seems to me you need the tendons/ligaments to tighten up and heal in order to prevent another dislocation and the more you keep it immobilized, the more it will tighten up/

went through over 9 months of shoulder rehab

I will give somoe pointers and some physical therapy exercises this evening when i have a bit more time to post.

My wife dislocated her shoulder and did not know it. She went to a couple of Drs. for a month or so. They're feeling her shoulder, she's complaining of the severe pain... and at one visit to the DR., she was sitting there in the office and they both heard"CRacklecrackdckckckcle" and she said "Oh, the pain is gone." The shoulder had popped back into place after about 4-6 weeks. wtf? The Drs. firs instinct whould have been to look for that. Right? It wasn't a general practitioner, it was a shoulder Dr. or something.

Ahhh, fucked up story either way.

She got injured from lifting weights btw. I felt so bad for her afterwards because she would keep attempting to lift for a few days after she got hurt, but the pain was too intense. She's awesome. I'm going to hug her right now.

definitely get some joint supplements (glucosamine, condroiton, MSM etc.)

a few exercises to strengthen the rotator cuff

lots of external and internal rotation movements.
Laterals are also important. palm down and palm perpendicular to the floor at different angles. Rows for the rear delt is the cornerstone, try to get it a bit strong than the front delts - since 95% of the time your shoulder pops out frontwards.

1 warmup set
2-3 sets of each exercise @ 10-15 reps

get a MRI bro..you dont want that nagging you for a long time.

tru

if it were bad enough i would even go as far as getting it "scoped" to ensure everything is alright - arthroscopic procedure (small incisions and fast procedure)
