Shoulder Pain

I get some serious shoulder pain in my right shoulder only.. kind of in the front, but feels like its 2-3 inches in near the joint... tender to the touch even.

Flat bench is usually what triggers the pain the most, but I can feel it in other exercises.

I've rested it for a couple of weeks but it still seems to return once I start benching 225 or more.

Anyone have any experience with this type of thing? Should I see my orthopedist? I have a feeling he's just going to tell me to stop benching heavy... that isn't what I want to hear.

I had something similar- I got it from heavy upright rowing but it hurt most when pressing. I'd bet it's a tweaked rotator and I'd recommend a thorough warmup of your shoulders before any sort of upper body work.

FWIW my pain lasted a week or so and now it's nothing.

BTW when specifically did the injury occur? Or did it just kinda show up?

just kind of showed up..

have had it for a while now, seems to be getting worse :(

Yes, Go get an xray. I did and it was a bone spur. Luckily it was cutting into my rotator cuff so I had to have that repaired as well. If you need surgery it is orthoscopic. So only small incisions.

You will not get rid of it until you cut it out(spur or rotator tear). Sooner the better. I could not bench heavy until I had the repair but now I am good to go. January will be two years. If it is muscle strain then just rest. If you rest and it doesn't go away don't wait. Wish I would have done mine sooner.

It's mouse shoulder. You're on the computer too much, using the mouse. I recommend not using the computer untill at least october 19th.

Some suggestions that worked for me:
(1) Bench using a machine.
(2) Change your grip to 1-2 inches closer
(3) Bring your elbows in closer and push the bar back to above your eye line
(4) Warm up the cuff as follows:
- Grab end of bar in rack at eye level with right hand
- drop elbow down...move elbow up .. 10 reps
- add some weight at crook of elbow to increase resistance
- do 10 reps and then turn body to left and do 10 more
- repeat with left hand
This will warm up and strengthen the cuff.
I do this first and last on chest and shoulder day.
Pain all gone!

thanks for the suggestions everyone.

I'm hoping its not a bone spur but am thinking about visiting the doc.
