my cable. Before this year I hadn't had cable in like 5 years I had bunny ears and that was good enough to watch the shows I wanted. If there was anything I really wanted to see but needed cable for I would do my cardio at the gym around it. Now a days you can watch so many show on the internet as well. It would take some adjusting but I am postive I would get over it and probably be more productive as well.

I don't have cable. No need for it. Since the transition I get a shitload of em.

I totally wanted to turn it into a death ray...

I need my infotainment in HD. You're a geek so you could just hook up a big tv to the computer and be okay; lots of options there.

btw, I'm thinking of reducing my cable service down to the Basic package for $15 per month. I presently pay about $50 a month for channels I rarely watch. The only think I'd miss is SPIKE for UFC, but I watch most of the fights on the internet now. And, I belong to NetFlix for movies :)

I pay about $65/month and unfortunately I don't think I could give it up any time soon. It's the cheapest plan with DVR and we're always recording favorite shows, movies, kids shows, ufc fights, ppv movies...etc. I can't even watch regular cable anymore because commercials are SO LONG. If I didn't have the kids I could definitely walk away from cable/satellite. Before I had them we had rabbit ears for a while... we lived in an area that didn't have cable and we couldn't get satelitte on our rental. We got 3 stations and I tell you what.... I did ALOT MORE OUTSIDE!!! Go inside.... nothing's on... ok, go for a run. Go inside... nothing's on.... ok, bring the dog for a walk.... etc.

Wait, if you didnt have cable then how did you watch The Shield when it was on?

i haven't had cable in two years. i miss history channel and stuff like that, but i only watch tv after 10p anyway, not worth it when conan's on broadcast.

I only have mine for the 1 person in my house who still watches TV. The rest of us use the Internet and movie rentals for our entertainment.

Wait a second. Don't you have a BF? If so, then cancel yours and use his when you need to watch TV. Mind you, it would mean that you've got to fuck him while you're there so he doesn't think that you're using him...

When does the new season of "Little Mosque on the Prairie" start?

He is in MTL and he is here more then I am there plus we almost never watch TV when we are together.:verygood:

I just got my cable hooked back up. went 3 years, no cable or internet.... i'll be on here a lot in the coming days making up for it.

I say disconnect. You will get a lot more done around the house without it

Cable would be easy for me to cancel the internet not a chance. :)

What did you get done in your 3 years away?

Worked mainly. Biked a lot. was able to work on the house without any distractions... missed out on a lot of EF gossip though. Oh, and those are some crazy ass abs you have there. They weren't that eye popping the last time I was on here

Let's expand this discussion. Does one need a special antenna to recieve HD over the airwaves? The farthest transmitter from me is 5 miles, so I'm wondering if i could pick up a cheap antenna and get some free HD channels.

i had free HD channels in maryland. but the antenna on the roof was enormous (bout 10 feet)

You need an antenna but it's not special. Most any one of those doodads from Best Buy will work but some are better than others. Roommate has one on her LCD tv that doesn't have cable service.

Nope. A $50 amplified settop antenna will work just fine.

I'm picking up some channels but it doesnt look hd

If it's HD you will know right away. Also, if you're trying to get like CBS Channel 5 the HD channel will be 5.1 or so...always a point something.

yeah it shows up as KVVU-HD and KVVU-SD on separate channels, but the program didnt look HD. Do they only broadcast certain things in HD or is everything on the HD channel always in HD?

It has to be shot with an HD camera but they usually say when it first comes on. If it's normal broadcast tv (i.e. news or a sitcom, not a movie) AND widescreen formatted it's probably HD.
