Should my brother date his best friend's sister? I'm just curious. He asked me my opinion, and he is afraid to make his best friend mad. What do you all think?

my ex's friend married his little sister's best friend a month ago...

it happens... as long as they all can get along and aren't weirded out by it.

Congrats to them. I hope it works out really well. I think he should go ahead and do it. But I want to hear some other opinions. I might be biased in the matter. ;)

ask his best friend

but id say

if its an older sister, then yeah

a younger sister, then maybe no...he should check first...he may be overly prtective so when things get a bit more 'physical' it could be v.awkward

The sister is a couple of years younger. The age difference isn't major though. ANd yeah, the brother is over protective. Of course, I am a woman so I might look at this differently than a guy. In my opinion, the girl and the guy should have the freedom to make up their own minds. But my brother doesn't want to ruin his friendship. Another but, he really likes her. So he is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

does he really likes her....he needs to think long and hard about whether he's just gonna jump on and off, go out with her for months but dump her when it gets stale or whether he sees a fairly long term thing here (doesnt have to plan it out, just see the potential)...after all its a lifetimes friendship on the line.

i think he should speak to his friend, and maybe the sister should too (if she feels the same). the brother probably still sees her as young and naive, when she might not be...

but i think he should test the water at least...if the bro's dead against it...i and it was my best bro, well id leave it personally, and let the sister woo him over time if she wants too

As a brother to a sister an year younger, I am very protective of her. I have hurt people to keep her safe. I would not want my best friend to date her, if that ever happened, I would just consider him another one of those potential creeps and hand his ass to him. I really dont like any guy going out with my sister but I know it will happen so it better be a guy who can take me. :)

I know a guy that is so much like you, it's not even funny. He has the same opinion where his little sister is concerned.

I have a question for you. I have asked him the same thing....Do you want your friends to be happy? I will assume the answer is yes. If it is, then why don't you want your sister to be happy? If she finds a guy that she cares about and vice versa, then why can't you just wish her the best instead of wishing that every guy would stay at least 50 feet away from her? I understand she is your little sister, but you have to look at her as a person too.

I don't mean to sound like a bitch. I know you love your sister. I can tell. My brother is the same exact way. But sometimes, he can be too much. :)

I DONT HAVE ANY SISTERS AND NONE OF MY CLOSE FRIEND DO EITHER SO I CANT REALLY RELATE. WHAT I CAN SAY IS IF THE GUY IS IN IT FOR GENUINE REASONS, IE.....LOVE, WHY NOT. IT IS HIS FRIENDSHIP WITH HIS BEST FRIEND IS WHAT IS AT RISK.

LIKE I SAID, IF HIS INTENTIONS ARE GOOD, WHY NOT???

KAYNE

PS....IF I DID HAVE A SIS, AND MY BEST FRIEND WAS DATING HER, I WOULDNT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT. HOWEVER, IF HE HURT HER IN ANYWAY INTENTIONALLY, I WOULD BREAK HIM.

Thanks Kayne, I like your point of view. I think brothers should stay out of it unless something happens and the sister gets really hurt or something. Even then, I think that they should let her handle it unless she wants them to step in.

I agree...its better to have a friend date her than someone you don't really know......personally i wouldn't want someone( older bro or sis) making my decisions for me!!!!RADAR

Believe me, it's no fun.

Oh man what a [potential nightmare

Ive been through this and lost my best mate because of my sister

its great when it goeswell, but it can be pretty destructive when itsnot

I say go for it

Well honestly I would feel a bit weird but if the sister is really one of those chicks wll, probably I would have a talk with my best friend concerning this.......

I don't think this is a good idea unless the sister and the best friend have known each other well and for a long time, and are genuinely interested in a long term commitment. Otherwise I don't think it's worth the risks involved. This could end up a very ugly, painful situation... or a very happy one.
