Sholuld Michael Jordan have his wife waxed?

velvett said:
I met him when he was a speaker at KBIS - he was fantastic to listen too and aside from being an athlete he is a successful business man. He and his wife run many of their businesses together and the money that was made was made during their 17 years together.

Unfortunately - he went and cheated on his wife and whether it was the first or the last of many times she put her foot down and said enough.

Whether he was a thousandnaire, millionaire or billionaire she gets half based on the length and status of their marriage and the state in which they reside.

I had wondered how many years they were 2-gether!

I dunno Biteme... if what Velvett says is accurate seems to me that Michael lost a whole lot more than money.

???.... I was only joking about having her whacked, they have kids together.. It's just that divorce laws need to be revamped.. They are outrageous.

I don't think he has loved her for years, I believe he's stayed with her to keep from losing 168 million dollars.

The laws are not right as I said. It would be no different if the woman were the one to have made all the money, the man should not get half of it. Michael made Juanita and not the other way around. Do you think she would have been successful in business to that degree on her own? So she should be compensated, but certainly not half of his assets.

Absolutely.

He spoke very highly of her and their relationship together, how they worked together, made decisions together and how it was important to find time for them as a couple.

Had she not been married to him she could have made her own life independently - when you give up your independence and career to support someone else you are due compensation.

That's not to say that many women just get married to replace daddy with anyone man that they can bleed for money and actually have sex with because we all know that happens.

Had I gotten married very young I would have tossed away my studies and my career - I would not be where I am now and had I gotten divorced young like everyone else in my peer group I would be working two jobs at $7 an hour living in a basement apt struggling to school myself and better my life.

Women who get married, do not have their own career and their own money, and worse make babies have the greater risk. The man still has a career - even if he loses half he can still make money at a much higher rate than the woman (especially if she's older and unemployable).

No it's not fair - I think a lot of men get slammed because of these laws but the same laws protect the women that went into a traditional marriage with the best intentions of sharing their lives and raising their children together to til do us part.

Silly I know that. I was refering to the fact that if Velvett is accurate in her portrayal of the situation he seems to have lost a LIFE PARTNER. I have been broke and I have been comfortable and let me tell you comfortable is waaaaaaaaaay better. But to have to go through life alone without someone who truly cares for you as a partner - now that is something that money just can't buy.

If she was a faithfull devoted and loving wife, mother and business partner guess what? She deserves half and then some as he could have just walked away like a man. Did he HAVE to cheat? No - he wanted his cake and eat it too. So as far as I am concerned SHE IS ENTITLED TO MORE... But half is certainly fair.

And were it the other way around (as in switch the genders) my opinion would be the same.

Wife/husband - doesn't matter.

If he cheated on her that is a factor and therefore she should get more than half.

In some states the laws penalize unfaithful spouses. I like that.

Okay I'm done here as some people can't keep their emotions out of it. Velvett's post was very good, we just have to disagree about the amount of compensation she should receive. Each case should be considered as to distributing the assets,.. based on the circumstances.

I do believe that their marriage was strained - the way he spoke about making relationships work leads me to believe that "making it work" was a focus (as it should be) but I do not believe that he did not love her.

He glowed when he spoke of her and his family.

I also don't believe that cheating on her was the sole thing that ended the marriage - it was just the final act.

It's sad because he seem to be very much a family man and a nurturer.

My ex wife cheated on me and I don't feel that entitles me to any extra monetary compensation. I don't understand that type of thinking.
