I can't see why you would have to pay (aside from your daughter - which is a different topic) her alimony.

Some states are no-fault states and they end up with results like this. If I remember correctly, the majority of states are no-fault states meaning that cheating on your spouse has absolutely no weight when determining alimony or division of the marital estate.

From what I see a true feminist would never let a man have the upper hand over them nor would they sacrifice such power (their own money).

Let's face it - money is power - and your either making it or selling yourself to get someone else's.

It just happens that most of the traditional marriages have the man as the bread winner. I've had two clients where the woman was the bread winner and the roles are directly reversed the man acts like the woman and the woman the man, it's extremely subtle but genders be damned.

I personally think a woman is crazy to get married and not have their own source of income.

We don't live in the same world as the nuclear families of the 50's I think it's foolish to believe that the standards of marriage that worked then could work now.

Besides, if you're man and you're afraid that some woman is going to get all your stuff have a pre-nup (that is if you have any worth at the time of your marriage - you may have to update it every few years).

What about the length of the marriage? That was really what I was getting at - a 9 month, 18 month, etc marriage should just be dissolved with everyone leaving with what they came (children of course are a separate issue)

I have to admit I don't think that cheating should weigh in either way - I think it's just something that could be sited as the reason for the divorce for a breech in contact.

A good lawyer can argue that the person cheated on drove the cheater to do it.

lololol mike's my hero, right up there with Dean Smith. But if he didn't want to have to pay out maybe he should have gone easy on the blond coeds from UNC-W. He not only cheated - I'd be surprised if he was ever faithful. I'm not saying cheating makes the settlement "fair" or whatever, but knowing the system he could have at least been more discrete.

Why wait til he's 44 though. Is it possible the NBA said, "Hey Mike, we're going to need you to go ahead and get married for the remainder of your career; it's better for your image."? It's a stretch, but I think he wanted to get married but like Elvis said, "You can't be married in rock n roll man."

Maybe it was just well known throughout the triangle area (Chapel hill, Raleigh, Durham). MJ liked hanging out with the college girls when he was in town (chapel hill) or at his home on wrightsville beach (thus my UNC-W reference earlier). It probably only stayed quiet because neither are big cities. I guess you're right that he can take it up a notch, though.
