Shadow Boxing 10lb weights...

I recently started shadow boxing every other night. On the day off i might box with the 3lbs wieghts just to keep my muscles loose.

I have to say it feels great. Gets you pumped and gets your punching muscles and punching speed alot faster.

Does anyone know actually how beneficial this is? I mean i can see my back muscles working. I can see my chest muscle striations so it has to be workign alot of muscles groups.

thought i might shed some light on this subject as i have never read it here.

There's an article in the latest MILO by Steve Angell about how he rehabbed doing boxercise...he said it's great for fitness and losing bodyfat.

I think he said he's doing 10 1-minute rounds continuous heavy punching (with a bag) with 1 minute rest inbetween. Sounds like HIIT but with boxing.

as a former amateur boxer i would say great for cardiovascular and lowering any body fat but muscle growth no. i would never do this on a rest day for obvious reasons, but after a workout to loosen up and as a training device for landing a good fast shot it is very beneficial of course.

Jamal Lewis the running back for the Ravens said that he doesn't lift weights for strength. Says the only thing he does is hit a heavy bag daily. He said that when he lifts weights, his muscles grow too fast and too big and he doesn't like it. Damn, must be nice to have a problem like that. Wish I was so unlucky that I got extremely big extremely fast when I lifted. :p The guy is like 245 and with the way he looks and the speed he has, I have a hard time imagining his bf being over 10%. I'd also bet money that he can put up some insane numbers in the weight room if he walked in there and tried. Imagine if he decided to be a bodybuilder and got on AAS, ate like crazy and started an quality lifting program? Scary thought. Of course, I'm not crediting any of this to his punching bag workouts, he's only been doin that a couple years now and it's obvious that the guy is just a genetic freak. Just thought I'd share the info though.
