Serious Growth

I was just wondering who here used the Serious Growth routine that was put out be Leo Costa. It was back in the early 90's. I know that when I tried it I made great gains even though everyone said it would not work. I have long since given up bb for plifting, but thought some of you might have tried it. Get any results??

Glad to hear it. I didn't think that it was still around. Or do you still have the program from before? Which variant are you using?

Basically it is controlled overtraining. You do insane volumes or lifting with very short rest periods. Then every 3 weeks you reduce the volume and increase the rest, and abracadabra you grow like a weed.

Worked for me way back when.

thx hannibal...what kind of gains did you experience??? what kind of rep shcheme is used.sorry for the xtra q's,but i'm curious.

well I got it from a friend, and i don't know that it's still around i had to go through hell to get it. What do u think of it, the original source where i got it, it isn't available anymore, What do u think of it? i'm 16, how were ur gains on it? well let me know bro thanx

If I remember correctly I gained about 25-30lbs in just a few months..natural by the way. I used variant3 where you lift three times a day. It was while I was in school so I didn't have anything else to do.
You lift six days a week. Back/Chest/Bi on MWF, and Delts/Legs/Tri on TRS. The rep schemes changed throughout the week. Mon+Tues 13-15, Wed+Thur 10-12, Fri+Sat 8-10

I've still got the manuals here somewhere. If I get a chance and you are interested I could email you more of the program.

I can tell you this if I was still into bodybuilding it would be what I was using.

Ive got a book from years ago also. Its called Big Beyond Belief. This is not available now. When i got it i was gonna start pumping but i never started working out till about 8 months ago. Still curious about it though. Anyway its the Serious Growth III version. It offers three different workouts:4 days per week one worout per day, 6 days one workout, and 6 days two workouts per day.Oh the guy i got the book from a back in 92 or 93 i think was a old high school buddy. He use to be a real skinny fucker an when i seen him in 93 he grew tremendously. I accused him of using gear but he swore no and said this program gave him the results. If anyone has heard of this or wants to know more keep postin on this strip.

Hey man..if you get the chance...email it to me also...I may learn something new.

hannibal, first off ,thank you for your efforts in e-mailing me and our brothers out there.i have a few more questions for you and i figured i would post them here,so that you wouldn't have to e-mail numerous times on the same topic.

q#1-variant 1 you lift once/day...variant 2 you lift twice/day and variant 3 you lift 3 times/day...what about variant 4,5,6???

q#2-training should last approx 45 minutes...when lifting twice/day,is that 45 min's total for the day?or per session?

q#3-should we choose compound movements strictly...or should we incorporate some isolation work as well???

q#4-when lifting twice or three times/day,how much recuperation time should we allow between workouts?

that's it!i can answer the majority of the questions myself, but i just want to make sure that all who will chose to follow this program, maximize their gains by following the program as it was meant to be followed.once again, thank you for your time and efforts in helping some brothers out

Well let's see if I can answer your questions.

#1 There are only three variants, and variant two does not mean doing variant one twice. Each variant is divided slighty different.

#2 That is 45min per session max.

#3 They recommend that isolation and machine movements represent no more than 30% of the volume

#4 When lifting more than once a day you should rest a minimum of 40 minutes between sessions. The more you can space out your workouts the better your results.

Now for those of you that are interested in the other variants I am in the process of typing them out. I will send them to those who ask.

Also a word of advice to those of you that plan on trying this workout. You will be sore for the first week or two. You might even lose some strength, but stay with it. When you lower the volume in the fourth week your body will compensate for that...ie growth.

"We must either find a way or make one."

The program also recommends some post workout techniques to aid in recovery.

#1 Six minute low level "cool down" session- NOT AEROBICS!!! The function of the cool down session is to quickly recover the ATP stores within the muscle. (Such as a light bike ride, stairmaster or even a brisk walk.)

#2 Post-workout recovery massage- The book includes a very detailed chapter on recovery massage for each bodypart. No way for me to post this.

#3 Cold and Hot Alternating Shower- This technique consists of alternating cold-hot showers to be performed after a workout in the following sequence; COLD-HOT-COLD-HOT-COLD (cold/30seconds--hot/1minute)

Well I am finally finished. Hope everybody got what I sent out. Now leave me alone you animals!!...J/K

Calves, how did the first day go? Just as a side note if you have a day that you can lift more than once you can switch from one variant to another.

For example, if you can only train one time per day during the week, but have the time to train three times per day on the weekend, you can start workout number one on Tuesday instead of Monday. This allows you, on Saturday and Sunday, to switch to variant three and perform the fifth and sixth day workouts on the three time per day program (variant 3).

The only requirement for switching is that you stay in the same corresponding phase. If you are in phase two in variant 1, when you switch to variant three, you must switch to variant 3 phase two.

Anyone else that tries this keep us updated on your progress.

Hannibal sorry bro but would you please send me this routine it sounds great and I have question, is this best done natural or should you get great growth off of it too, or does it matter. I am about to start a cycle very soon and figured maybe I could use this when my cycle's over. What do you think? Thanks bro!

I have the book as well, and I didnt particulary like it. So, if one of you guys want the book that I have....drop me an email at [email protected]. The first email i get is going to get the book just so you know. I'll sell it for 25 bucks (i bought it for 50 bucks a few years back) still in very good condition. LOTS of info in there and although the program didnt work well for me, I still learned a lot from it.

peace

Damn, I've never seen so much interest in a workout. Don't worry this is not another request but you should have posted it, it would have been easier than sending it all of those mails!
Good to finally see more people on the training board at last though. I'll visit more often my self now.

I think it would be hard to post...or email someone the info in this book. Most of the book talks about the workout routine and then towards the end its all about supplements and how to eat ect. I mean, its a good 100 pages of the workout itself.

peace

If someone gets a chance please email to me as well - [email protected] (really interested in the 4 day a week program). I followed the Serious Growth routine about 5 years ago and got some really good results - unforunately I've lost the stuff since then and would like to give it another go! Thanks in advance!

Some web searching turned up the following link: http://members.nbci.com/wwwduyle/BBB/

Its an abbreviated listing for 4 day a week Big Beyond Belief routines. I'd like to get the rest of it, but this listing should be enough to get started with.....

Also, dont know if anyone is interested, but looks like Leo Costa has a new training book out something like "Titan Training". Go to Amazon.com, do an author search on Leo Costa and it will pull up Big Beyond Belief and the new one. Thinking about getting it.....

bbb3

Its been 1 month since I have been on this program. I love it. Right now it is the one that has been working for me.
My whole body feels constantly pumped and full.

Please send me a copy too!

I tried the serious growth seals program a few years ago. It was a six day a week program and the only mass it was supposed to add was functional. It was mainly a strength program. However, I grew like a weed. I also got strong as hell. It was a great program.

I've been looking for the full blown program so I can grow. Thanks.

G'day all you iron mates!

I tried the "serious growth" stuff after a buddy on dr.squat board sent me the manual.

I've been lifting weights for 20 years ( just for muscle gain purposes). In that time I've been doing schedules similar to what Le Costa/Platz recommend, but I didn't fully appreciate the theoretical side of it until they explained it.

This stuff really works. I do my own controlled "overtraining" workouts to always make sure your in the training zone for optimum growth. Once you appreciate what these guys are on about you can always make the gains.

You don't need large volume workouts, but rather frequent, brief, intense pumping!

I have tried the version that all of you are talking about, Big Beyond Belief. I gained just under 12 lbs. in a semester of college with no bodyfat increase. I am currently a senior who is studying sports medicine, pre-physical therapy so i have a pretty good idea about what is going on, and this program definately makes alot of sense. If anyone has the 4th version, The titan training system, i would really like to know how if it works. From what i've read on it, it seems like it has the same basic make-up as BBB, but with some twists and changes. If anyone knows anything about it, i'd like to hear.

thanks

Titan Training, Big Beyond Belief

I have Serious Growth 4 (Titan Training) and Serious Growth 3 (Big Beyond Belief). I also have a lot of the other OTS products, newsletters and videos. The concepts in these manuals are really mind blowing. I gained a hell of a lot of muscle using their techniques. Each manual, however, pretty much goes over the same material as the previous manuals but with some new twists, although Titan Training is the most unique and efficient out of all of them. If anyone wants to buy their stuff from me, then send me an email. Everything I have is in perfect condition.
