Seperated for 3 years.....and

yeah heard bout that
yeah she shoudl get it:)

she was still legally his spouse

HE was served divorce papers after he came forward that he won.

I would suspect they were both being sneaky with each other.

1 - It takes a little time at the least to draw up and serve divorce papers.

2 - He waited over a month to come forward? He knew that divorce was in the air (uh duh) and he was hoping to sign those papers before he came forward to claim the prize.

I'd say they both were served justly.

I heard it on weirdo wednesday News this mroning on a local radio station

He said he had heard that some guy had won before and didnt tell the wife cuz she would have gotten it anyway so he thought hed be forthright and tell her...cuz the other guy lost most of his money
i think he got off pretty cheap:)

He coulda pulled somthing out. Like give the ticket to his parents, they cash the ticket.
He settles accounts with the ex, then make the swap with a nice fee to his parents.

What he did was the direct thing to do, but dumb.
Doesn't matter the gender, people are greedy. He shoulda saw it comming.

You guys are in SUCH denial - ya'll don;t see he is calulated???

Waited over a month to claim 60 million dollars? HELLO? McFly?
WHY?

Swofford said he remembered reading about a divorce case where a lottery winner kept it a secret and was penalized in court.

"I'd heard of a case in California where a judge heard about it after he had settled the divorce case and took the husband to the cleaners and made him pay everything he had left out of his lottery winnings," Swofford said Tuesday in Tallahassee. "I feel peaceful. She has money to, you know, raise my son and I feel that I am contributing to the welfare of my son."

Peaceful, peaceful my ass..

If he thught he could have gotten away with it he would have gone for it.

Oh fuck it. If I won 60mil in the Lottery I'de give my exWife half.... Who cares bro, anything more than 5mil. you are set for life if you know what you are doing.

That's common. Most will wait 2-3 days, sometimes weeks before claiming their money. They were separeted for 3 years so IMHO if he wasnt good enough for her anymore, then his money shouldnt have been good too. But it's the law, and nothing is perfect.

WHAT?

That a stretch.
You have no idea why they separated three years ago, hell he could have slept with her twin sister - none of us know why.

What we do know is that the divorce was NOT final and he did try and hide his winnings until he realized he'd be better off just giving her some and moving on with his life.

I mean really.

Sad part is that they'll both probably be broke within a few years.

That's my point - the divorce wasn't final.
Is it fair - no.

Did he try and hide the money - HELL YA - don't even try and say he wasn't he ADMITED it by mention the story about the man that did try and hide it..

How is that not crystal clear?

funny how she wants to be separated from him, but not his money.....typical

if she really wanted nothing to do with him, she wouldn't have gone after his money

Most lottery's rules say you have up to a year to claim your money. IMHO there's no big deal. It was his right. Technically, you cant be hiding something you own yet. But yes, we all know why he did.... :verygood:

Shit, I would fly out of the country, and when I land, I'd buy a car and drive for days and buy everything in cash and change my name just so she wouldn't get shit.

Uclasterdropout had the perfect idea. Give the ticket to someone you trust, tell them you'll give them 33% or something.

Nobody is disputing whether or not he tried to "hide" the money from his wife. Obviously he did. As an aside, many people do not claim their lottery winnings right away. As Manny said, you have a year (in Canada at least) to claim your prize.

The negative comments stem from the fact that the legal system is not in a man's favour because the woman wanted to be separated from him, but not his money (as J-boy said).

$22.5 mill after taxes.......$5 mill to the wife......the kid gets the shaft with a measly million..............................and 13 Camaros, 12 trips to Vegas, and one failed meth lab later.......they'll be right back in the trailer park. :)

Unearned money is hard to keep.

Poor people are poor because of the way they think not because of how much money they make... All that money does not come with instructions.
