school shooting lesson learned?

Most of you by now, know about the school shooting. I found the part in bold interesting

CLEVELAND - A 14-year-old suspended student, dressed in black, shot four people in his downtown high school Wednesday before he killed himself, police said.

A fellow student at SuccessTech Academy alternative school said Asa H. Coon, who was suspended for fighting two days earlier, had made threats in front of students and teachers last week.

“He’s crazy. He threatened to blow up our school. He threatened to stab everybody,” Doneisha LeVert said. “We didn’t think nothing of it.”

Coon was armed with two .38-caliber revolvers, and police found a duffel bag stocked with ammunition and three knives in a bathroom, officials said. Parents were angry that firearms got into a school equipped with metal detectors that students said were intermittently used.

Officials said two teachers and two students were shot, and a 14-year-old girl fell and hurt her knee while running out of the school.

Students hide under tables, in closets
Witnesses said the shooter moved through the converted five-story downtown office building, working his way up through the first two floors of administrative offices to the third floor of classrooms. Officials said he was wearing a black Marilyn Manson concert shirt, black jeans and black-painted finger nails.

The first person shot, student Michael Peek, had punched Coon in the face right before the shootings began, said student Rasheem Smith, 15.

Coon “came out of the bathroom and bumped Mike and he (Mike) punched him in his face. Mike started walking. He shot Mike in the side.” Peek, 14, didn’t know Coon had a gun, Smith said.

Antonio Deberry, 17, said he and his classmates hid under laboratory tables and watched the shooter move down the hallway. “I saw him walking past. He didn’t see us, we saw him.” The shooter swore and shot several times, Deberry said.

LeVert said she hid in a closet with two other students after she heard a “Code Blue” alert over the loudspeaker. She said she heard about 10 shots.

Shooting victim speaks about incident
Darnell Rodgers, 18, was walking up to another floor when the stairway suddenly became flooded with students.

“It took me a couple of minutes to realize that I was actually shot, when I felt my arm burning in the area, that’s when I realized that I had got shot,” Rodgers said.

“They were screaming, and they were saying, ‘Oh my God, oh my God.’ I knew something was wrong, but thought that it was probably just a fight, so I just kept going,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers was released from a hospital after treatment for a graze wound to his right elbow.

Coon had been suspended since Monday for fighting near the school that day, said Charles Blackwell, president of SuccessTech’s student-parent organization. He did not know how Coon got into the building Wednesday.

Security guard on first floor
Blackwell said that there was a security guard on the first floor, but that the position of another guard on the third floor had been eliminated.

Student Frances Henderson, 14, said she often got into arguments with Coon, who once told her, “I got something for you all.” He was a “gothic” who usually wore a trench coat, black boots and a dog collar, she said.

So the kid who by all acounts get thrown away like trash, finally flips, when a 18 yo homeboy punches him in the face for bumping into him. I hope that fucking shithead learned dont fuck with weaker people. The teachers who had been told by students that he was going to do this, but where to busy need to goto jail.

Point I'm making is people are getting all sad blah blah blah, when all they had to do was be decent to one another. The family and the system failed him. And the kids fucked with him daily from what I read. The kid was an asshole for letting people fuck with him, the kids at the school where assholes for fucking with a weaker person and the school staff where assholes for not heading the warning and giving this kid what he needed. When you have that many assholes in one place someone is going to get shit on.

not saying the act was justified. But on the note of being a pussy, If you and your chick are out and 50 guys are about to roll you up. Is it being a pussy to pull a piece, to even the odds. He evend the odds, a group of people fucking with one weaker person = the weaker person having even things out. Oh and it seems like he took long enough to do it, maybe he was just thinking about it. But mike had to punch him in the face for bumping him when he came out the bathroom.

I'm w/ sublimezm on this one. I got two kids in school and worry about this shit every day...

so the only people he shot were people who beat him up?

i find that hard to believe

look when I was kid if I got my ass whop, I would pull it together and fight back. I took a beaten from time to time but we could all walk away to fight another day. I own more then a few guns but I would'nt shot sum one for an ass whoppen. You are going to need to realy put my or my kids life in danger be4 I sling any shells...
WTF are kids thanking these day?? I guess thier not.

I can't understand any of this really - I never picked on anyone nor was I picked on as a kid. In fact - I got in more fist fights in bars in my 20s than I ever did growing up in school. I only knew of one really weird loner type kid in high school, but he wasn't picked on (that I saw anyway). He would just wander around and talk to himself. Everyone just left him alone. I would like to think that if I did see someone constantly picked on by everyone - I would have tried to talk to that person - and if I didn't befriend him/her, we would at least have a civil relationship.

This is nothing less than a reflection of our societies shift in moral standards and poor parenting. Parents used to instill a moral compass, and teach their kids that they should treat others the way they want to be treated. It seems now they're being taught that they deserve more than they have, somebody owes them, and that they have not been taught to be responsible for themselves. It's always somebody else's fault.

I read an article - I'll try to find it - that explained that very thing. It said that Generation "Y" is now entering the work force and even though they are better mannered than Generation "X", they expect raises and promotions much quicker and for no reason.

I hear what you are saying ... however, I was beat up and picked on regularly (I was one of maybe 8 white kids in a predominantly black/hispanic school system) from 1st grade till 8th grade. Then I went to Catholic high school with all the "upper class white kids"... surprize, surprize they were even meaner and nastier than the "underpriviliged minority kids" because I looked "too ethnic" and was poor and well, sadly THE "WRONG RELIGION". Sheesh it seems that I just couldn't buy a break growing up. LOL

The point I am trying to make is that regardless of how many kids were cruel to this one kid, going to school and blowing ANYONE away is not justified.

The thought of my coming to school with a weapon and physically maming anyone NEVER CROSSED MY MIND. Hell, the lesson life taught me is to judge people by the content of their character and not by their skin color, religion, social status, etc...

You can give several people the same stimuli and yet have each react differently.

I think that too much sex and violence on TV in media in general, not enough parental interaction, internet access without guidance, and just a general non-chalant/non-caring attitude towards our youth and elderly citizens is more to blame for these types of tragedies than the fact that A LOT of kids can be straight up nasty.... and while ALL will grow up only SOME will mature.

There are many countries where kids pick on one another, yet NEVER do you hear of such an event occuring, except for here in the good old United States.

Should be a wakeup call to the country.... no?

School shootings are becoming as common as county fairs in the good ole' USA

Yep, that's why everybody should carry guns, teachers in school especially should only teach when armed. Nurses as well and not to forget child-care workers, you never know when one of those little tots shows up with an ak-47 one day. In fact everybody should own and carry guns ALL the time.

That's the only way to keep shootings down.

It wasn't "evening the odds." Those people were not going to kill the kid. I think it is pretty doubtful that he only shot people who had hit him in the past, either. He did shoot his teacher for suspending him for fighting, too.

Yeah but the real question is where did he get the steroids? Everyone knows that's the only reason people go crazy and kill other people.

I detected the sarcasm, but not right away, because this is how I truly feel.

Not all, but selected individuals in schools, especially in high-risk areas, should be covertly armed.

It should rotate. Maybe the Vice Principal and the Trig teacher this week, the Lit Teacher and Guidance counselor next week. No one knows who. All are trained marksmen.

Then when some knucklehead tries to pull a Columbine, he may get one or two shots off...

1 he did target the people who fucked with him.

2. If you are 1 person against many, pulling a piece is evening the odds.

And I grew up in a all hispanic school trust me i got scars on my knuckles, I learned early not to let people mess with me. I have a girl in school to and I worry about shit like.

My point is the system fucked up

His family is fucked up

The school staff dropped the ball

And the kid was a asshole

I dont feel bad for any of them, teacher got shot because the school didnt head the warnings of the students. Mikey got popped for being a prick ( I've seen it happen for much less). The kid smoked himself cuz he couldnt deal with life, one less fucker I have to wait in line behind.

Fuck them all I'm just tired of hearing it over and over again on the news. I think it says alot about a society the way they treat there kids and elderly.
