sandwich for dinner ?

Hey all.

just starting to come back from the flu, & had such a craving for a sandwich for dinner. along with a big bag of cheetos, & pint of ben' & jerry's fudge brownie ice cream. Just kidding !!!! didn't have them, but boy wanted them !

what I really ate: 4 oz. low-sodium deli turkey, on whole wheat bread, 1 tsp. reduced-fat mayo, 1 slice fat-free cheese, bunch of green grapes, washed it down with a carb-sense rtd shake.

sometimes all I have time for is a sandwich, so I'm asking is the sandwich for dinner ok ?

I figured it to be 15 gr. protein for the turkey, 2 slices of bread 6 gr. protein,
36 gr. carbs for the bread, 5 gr. protein for the cheese, rtd protein shake was 25 gr. protein 5 gr. carbs. the grapes & tsp. of mayo I have no idea ?

Thanks !!

"Sometimes all I have time for is a sandwich".

No it won't kill you. Cheat dinner? Sure! (Though I'd go for a fat steak & dessert myself...) Make it a habit. Nope.

If I leave out a couple tilapia filets to thaw, I can throw them in the microwave for 7 minute & voila! I've got an excellent fish dinner. (OK so it's not grilled salmon, but if its all I have time for...) I can eat out of a bag of tuna or cut up some pre-cooked sweet potato probably faster than you can make your sandwich.

I'm just suggesting other options. If you plan ahead a little bit, you can have stuff on hand. Tuna is usually my desperation bail-out. But I guess the idea is just to eat something. Bread later at night I probably wouldn't do. But again, unless you are on schedule for a competition, a couple deviations will never kill you. You gotta live w/ the lifestyle & sometimes you just take a break from it.

ALso, if you cook chicken ahead of time and leave it in the fridge, you have it there and ready. Same with veggies. I steam a BUNCH of veggies and cook meat on Sunday - they stay in the fridge all week. I take them out and reheat as needed.

Easy.

I do the same, sunday is my cooking day, everything gets prepared that day. I even bake my sweet potatos, mash them up and put them in a container.

This way the only thing I have to do, is measure everything out each day. It takes 2 minutes. :)

There is no such thing as not enough time, it's just an excuse people give themselves, if you really want to live this healthy lifestyle then you'll make time., it's as simply as that. We're all busy people with other obligations.

I spend about 3 hours sunday just prepping stuff for the week. I work across the state so between work and the gym, I have NO time during the week. I even went so far as to put a little fridge in my office ;)

I will cook a lot of turkey chili or chicken, etc. and then a large pot of brown rice, wheat pasta, veggies, or bake sweet potatoes, things that will last all week. Sometimes even salads, and I break them down into portions and take a few with me every day. Only way I eat right.

It may take a little while to get used to it and may seem like it takes forever once you are starting.....but after a while it will seem like 2nd nature.

Get some of those inexpensive disposable containers & make a bunch of chix breasts, veggies, rice, etc etc put a meal in each container & fridge/freeze it....Grab N Go!!

Well said!!

I did my shopping for next week this morning. I cook everything over the weekend. (BTW, if anyone lives near a Safeway supermarket - sweet potatoes/yams are on sale @ 50 cents a pound;)

If I have enough containers available, I also measure and divide up everything. The only thing I have to do when I get home is pop it in the microwave.

Wow! Great ideas everyone! I get really fed up cooking so many times a day. I'm going to try planning ahead for next week. I'm learning so much from you all!

I scored the $0.50 yams at Publix last week. This week I did $0.89 at Kroger.
