Same shoes as I have?

I would like to know if anybody else is in the same condition that I am in. I love my wife with all my heart and she is HIV-positive. I don't mind that at all, Hovever; I am careful not to get the same disease. I still make love to her with a condom, and want to make her life the best it can be. Today, research is at the best it has ever been. I feel like I'm alone in this journey. I would always do anything for my wife. She is the best thing that has ever happened to me and unfornutely she contracted the HIV virus. That doesn't change my love for her and never will. I just would like to know if anybody else is in the same shoes as I am? Please let me know. I don't need any smartass responses, what I need is some uplifting. Thank You for your respond!

Fortunately, I am not in your shoes. My awesome wife is HIV negative. But my prayers go out to you. It's refreshing to see someone seeing past the disease to love the person.

As a biochemist, let me remind you that the key to keeping her healthy is to stay on top of this disease. That means not forgetting the meds, eating healthy, and being as happy as she can. And don't always believe what the MDs say. Always get a second opinion and keep your eyes peeled for new experimental treatments.

Good luck, Bro!

I am in your wife's shoes. I am with a man who is HIV Negative and have never felt such support as I do from him. I met him after I was infected and my status was never a major issue for him.
I have been through some rough spots; fighting taking my meds and the regime, but he was there encouraging me and getting angry and pushing me to be healthy.
I bet that your wife feels the same way as I do. With the knowlegdge of being loved by men like you will keep us strong and going for a long time.

Sorry for waking old topic. But I am also in your same shoes. Wife is pos and I not. It is hard to deal with sometimes, but hang in there. You are a great guy for sticking by her, and I try to tell myself the same. Good luck to you and yours.

Good luck - you'll be fine. Current therapy for HIV is very effective and newer drugs are in the works. A vaccine has already been made in animal models.

News flash: HIV is not the end of the world. I have had it for 17 years, no meds and in the best shape of my life. Guess what: Your wife may outlive you. I hope in time you will begin to realize how baseless these fears are. In five years, you will feel the same way.

That's pretty amazing if you've lasted 17 years without any meds. I would still get a CD4 count anyways because you only start manifesting symptoms of AIDS once your CD4 count gets below 400. Above 400, you could feel fine. Genetics plays a huge role in how HIV progresses. For example, if you have a homozygous mutation in the CCR5 coreceptor you are IMMUNE to HIV and will never get it. If you're heterozygous, you have a slower progression of disease (which is probably what you have). At the other end of the spectrum, if you have a mutation in the CXCR4 receptor, you have an increased progression of disease. Other factors to take into is that there are two forms of the HIV Virus, HIV 1 and HIV 2. HIV-2 is associated with a much faster disease progression and an increased rate of transfer between heterozygous partners (this is the form prevalent in Africa).

Your story is definitely the exception and not the norm. His wife will be fine if she is compliant with the meds.

All this may be true, but the meds do work and their use is only going to get better along with newer drugs. Dont' start making funeral arrangements, just get busy living. We are all going to die, and your wife may live near her life expentancy

I'm still here too. I don't mean to make light about any of this. The subject is actually MUCH more complicated than most of you may know. I will try to explain in another post. I have a LOT of typing to do.

Thanks! Alan Chiras.
