Just been floating around different sites and came across a dude called sagi kalev. he says hes about 5`8 @200 in top, top shape. he remains around 5-8% year round, thats the way to stay in my opinion. always lean.
anyone seen pics of this guy. what u think?
how would one maintain a super lean physique year round for photo shots, prob be moderate cals i guess. prob is it`d hard to pack more size on as will always wanna stay hard and lean.

I'm here. Sagi is a great fitness model. I've seen lots of his pics. I don't believe that he's 200 lbs. in shape. I think more like 185-190 at the most. He diets year round. He's also obviously not natural so that makes it easier. I stay lean all the time now also since I'm getting into fitness modeling. You can't have an off season. You have to ready for a shoot at anytime. That's the nature of the game. I'm dieting all the time. I can take a day off here and there, but it's not very often.

I have mad respect for those that can keep a tight diet year round and keep their bodyfat in single digits, such as Mak. I put on bodyfat pretty easy and my body naturally likes to sit around the 12-13% BF range even when keeping a good diet. I have to really struggle to keep my bodyfat in the single digits and is just too hard for me with my bodytype to keep it that way year round. I still like taking a few months off in the cold winter season here in the Northeast, but this past year tried to maintain my single digit bodyfat level as long as I could and I was able to do it for 6 months, but it slowly increased by simply increasing my cals and dropping the cardio down to a few days per week. I dont have intentions of making a living out of my body, so struggling year round with maintaining an extremely strict diet is just not something I feel I have to do, there are things in my life that take priority over dieting and training now adays. But like I said, I have mad respect for those that do do it, and can do it.

whats a good way to get into fitness modelling? i was thinking before of having a portfolio done and think i`d be about sagi`s size. i am currently 220 ish with 13% body fat, so a lean 6% i`d be around 205-210.
I will never make it as a bodybuilder as have smallish calves and getting fed up with being bloated all year long - I just want to maintain a good 210 with low bf year round.
Mak - could you give me any tips? cheers :)

Well bro. First you need to put together a comp card. You do that by setting up a shoot with an established photographer. You need to find one that has experience shooting physiques. Just because a person is a photographer doesn't mean they'll know how to shoot your physique. Don't overlook this as it is crucial to your success. Then you send them out to different agencies that sign fitness models. You also need to be a marketing machine. Promote yourself everywhere. Put your pics on the major bodybuilding and fitness web sites. You never who is looking.

What sort of diet do you/should i follow once i am in condition to maintain it, i have a farily fast metabolism but have decided against bodybuilding now, i just want a 205-210 physique year round in shape.
last Q.. What sort of gear would sagi be taking to maintain in shape all year long? would he ever come off it?

what sort of weight should someone 5`8 be for fitness modelling at a low body fat % (6-8%)?? Is 205-210 too heavy?

5'8'' at 205-210 at 6% is pretty huge. like Mak was sayin.. 185-190 would be more like it.

Re: sagi kalev... shredded!!

Yeah 205-210 is pretty big for modelling but not for bodybuilding IMO which is why after ten years i have had enough of trying to gain more weight and just happy to consolidate my gains and maintain a good look ONCE I diet down. Last summer i was 7% body fat at 207lb so after gaining a few lb i`d be around 210 now at 7% which would prob be too big for fitness modelling but sagi kalev looks about my size if i was that lean again and hey he has made a mint so its always an option if i get lucky! :artist:

210 is too big for a 5'8" frame. I would go for 185-190 at 5%. That would be about right. The main thing is how you look. It's very important to be proportional. They don't want someone with huge arms, but no back. Or huge delts, but no chest. You have to look balanced. If you are balanced you can be bigger and get away with it. At 210 and 5'8" you would look too big for fitness modeling.

I don't know what Sagi is on because I don't know him. I'm not going to speculate either. I doubt that he stays on all the time, since I've seen pics of him where he looks 175 and pics where he looks 190.

Fitness modeling is a tricky biz. I never got into it formally, but I made the mistake of appropriating my image and giving a few pictures of my torso to an agent. Next thing I knew I was seeing those pictures pop up in magazines, but with some distortion, souch as added contrast/diminished color, revered axis, whatever -- in an attempt to indemnify whomever was selling that image I guess. Like anyone else, I know my body and I took a few pics to a lawyer to pursue the issue, but since I had already sold the images once (without an agent -- BIG MISTAKE) I had no recourse.

Right now I couldn't model for anyone. Just as I was getting back in I had a role in a film (I am currently shooting) that required me to look more normal than I usually do. So here I am at about ten percent or so and I fucking hate it. But the role is fun and I think this year is my year.

Anyway, today I just reneewd my Bally's membership. I had tried to do it several times before and always something got in the way at the last minute, so I was never able to implement the plan I posted here a few months ago. That being said, I am now preparing myself mentally to return to a completely shredded state, just as soon as this shoot is over (two weeks to go!)

Unfortunately I will have to do this naturally as my source was busted. But at 38 years old I think I have enough muscle memory to expect some good results anyway.

BTW, the bodyweight for fitness modeling is entirely dependient on your individual proportions. Interestingly I grew an inch in height over the past few years so I am six feet tall now (barely under) and my "fighting weight", so to speak, has gone up correspondingly. The pic I posted in 2001 was at about 170lbs, then in '02 I was 173-175. I think I will go to 177-180 this time at about six percent bodyfat. 2oo on a 5'8 frame is gigantinc in pictures, especially film. I weigh 195 now and look puffy on film, although strangely muscular in the arms. Sort of like Stallone in Copland. Its truly horrifying.

I agree shredded. A casting director that I'm talking with told me that I would have to be smaller for film. That's my ultimate goal so that's cool with me. My fiance keeps telling me I will be miserable when I'm smaller since I love muscle so much... ;)

I think i could be around 190-195 in excellent shape (6% bf) naturally but like you stated Mak, I love muscle and being 205 at 6% on gear is awesome in the summer!
I think I will have some shots done here in the UK and send to agencies in London and see how things pan out.
Not expecting a great deal but keep fingers crossed. I gotta diet down now though from 13% doing four days low carbs (150g) and one day high carbs (400g) for 5-6 weeks.
Final Q.. What gear is best for a photo shoot? Would you say plain prop and arimidex at 1mg a day or should I add other hardening agents? :artist:

well there are 2 ways to look at things when it comes to casting

a. ok you will rid yourself of muscles and look like everyone else = you will be just like everyone else and never get casted for anything

b. or keep yourself muscular (not ifbb muscular just above avg.) and look for casting calls that require that and you have a better chance of getting any work

there is plenty of jobs that require in shape guys and its common sense that for every 500 guys who attend casting calls maybe one is in extremly good shape, I know its crazy how so many decide to tone down so much so they can get acting work and after they tone down they still get no work, dont make that mistake.

Most muscular guys ive seen at casting can barely talk let alone act, so when they get no call backs they blame it oh im too big, if you know how to act and look good + muscular you have a 100% better chance of getting work then the regular joe

I agree with you NY on most points. However, I don't want to get meat head roles. That's not very challenging. I guess if one just wants those kinds of roles, then get jacked and you'll get them. You just won't get very far because those guys are a dime a dozen. Arnold broke the mold and it won't happen again.

I'll never shrink down to nothing, or normal. My point being I probably won't be able to stay the size that I am. My fiance is an actress, and yes has done lots of work in film, tv, etc, and told me the same thing. You will probably have to shrink down a little, but stay lean. It really just comes down to what you want to look like and what you want to do with it.

Hey guys,

Thank you very much for your kind words. Please write me here anytime and I will try to do my best to answer you all.

I am at 58.5,lol and weight about 202 At this time. I am leaving to LA this friday for a shoot so it looks like i will be at the high 198lb.

I been staying in this low body fat life style since 2002. Once you learn your body it's much easier to know how far you can get outof shape before you get back into shape. My goals is a litile different than some of the other guys out there. I am truly not trying to get any bigger and since my last show i only put 15lb. My first shoot for M&F was in 2003 and since then all i been working on is how to get better and to learn as much as i can to help others in their shows.
I guess next time whn i stop here and see what you guys have to say i will tel you more about my diet and what i take to stay like that.
I have my own believes and so far it's been working with 25 people and more for big shows.
Thank you again for wellcome me to the site. I know we can help each other by been and sharing TOP secrects.

Sagi.

It's all about what kind of massage you want to speard. Some people look small on 205lb. I look at 205 like i am 220-230.

That's why I am trying forall my shoots to come very dry but a lower on the weight.

i love this thread!
this is the kinds of threads ive wanted to see here on Ef (thou every one informative)
ive also wanted to learn more and more about fitness modelling and stuff that comes whit it.

probably takes a base line of test all year with primo/gh.
not to mention clen or cytomel. just my guess.

But the thing with these guys is they are freaks to begin with and they stay relatively lean all year then when a photoshoot arrives they just drop the carbs for 3 days and voila.

World of modeling and acting is so fucking tough.

I've got a buddy who is about 6'4" 230lbs 8% body fat. He wants to model and he's got the connections... But he's been told he's got to get down to 195lbs. Unbelievable if you ask me. He's down to like 205lbs now, and I can just see him getting smaller and smaller. He really wants it though, he's dedicated and he's scaling his size down big time.

no offense to your friend but what the hell is so great about being a male model? so you can stand in front of a camera and look pretty? can't be any money in it.

Yes there is money, as well as connections for other jobs in the industry and business opportunities. Not to mention the popularity and all the prime USDA pussy in the world.
