I have a serious question.

Rush is always talking about personal responsibility and not blaming others for your predicament, yet whenever something bad happens in the world he always manages to blame political leftists (liberals to those of you in alabama) for it. How does he manage the cognitive dissonance? does he really believe everything is their fault, or is he just not seeing it or what.

Easy. Rush as always admitted that he is an 'entertainer' and has even gone so far to allude that if as a liberal talk radio host he could get higher ratings that he would play that role. Remember, he was a struggling disc jockey before he found 'conservatiism" His role is to bash liberalism because that is what the audience wants him to do
I listened to him in his early days, but the his constant 'towing the Republican line' just gets old

Amen!! People forget that Rush is an entertainer, people tend to totally demonize him and its silly. Just like Howard Stern he caters to his audience-simple as that. For meaningful debate in this country we need all sorts of views - liberal, consevative, liberatarian, Ryan H (communist). You listen to all sides and decide what's best for you.

I don't see why entertainment should legitimate lying. He's settled countless lawsuits brought against him for his lying. "Entertainment," curiously, is not a defense when you misrepresent the truth.

Read this book:

chomsky is good. he's great actually.

And that al franken book is hilarious. His ideas for handling the medicare problem is a riot. it's kinda cruel, but it's funny anyway.

Michael Moore is a good read too.

Yeah, Moore's "Stupid White Men" oughta be required reading in a lot of places.

Chomsky is a good read, Sushi, but a bit old school. YOu need to get a subscription to The Nation, or read their website. The book I'm promoting these days is Gore Vidal's "Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace."

no he's not anymore. it suddenly came back some months ago.

I think it was a stunt for some more attention.

Is this for real? He had a healing miracle? Why do the fat have all the luck?

The Nation? is it an e-mag or an actual magazine.

where can i get a copy of that Gore Vidal book? amazon.com?

Yes, from Amazon, or from the Nation, I think.

The Nation is the only real liberal news weekly left in America. Most of the articles are available on its website, www.thenation.com, but it is a print magazine.

The following blogs (and such) are good reads:

eric alterman (who also writes for The Nation): http://www.msnbc.com/news/752664.asp

eschaton: http://atrios.blogspot.com/

www.buzzflash.com

the hamster, which also links many columnists and blogs: http://thehamster.8k.com/

www.mediawhoresonline.com

www.smirkingchimp.com

The most courageous mass-circulation liberal columnist now is the brilliant Paul Krugman at the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2002/06/11/opinion/11KRUG.html

(you will likely have to sign up to the Times website, if yoiu haven't)

i just went and bought my subscription to the nation. i look forward to my first issue.

know any good political discussion boards?

you would'nt know strongchick's email address would ya? i'd like to talk to her again. if you have it you can pm or email me, either or.

thanks for all the info MB. i'll have somethings to keep me busy for awhile.

Moore's book should be kept next to a toilet in case of emergencies:

Since the left is well represented in this thread, we should even it out a bit.

Some good books would be:

"The Federalist Papers"

"The Anti-Federalist Papers" (good book for rounding out the debates for our constitution and its reasoning)

"Das Kapital" and "Communist Manifesto" -will give antithesis of our government, and anyone with half a brain should now realize why it is a pipe-dream and anti-liberty. Also, lets you see how present day liberal agenda is not new.

Anything by John Locke, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, Ayn Rand, and Thomas Szasz.

Reason.com is a good libertarian e-zine (in print also) and lets one step away from the two party system to see how they are both at fault for our problems.

The Cato Institute (www.cato.org -I think).

Whoa. Listen to him more because that is not what happens. Yes, if a liberal program is the root of a problem, he'll go after it. However, he doesn't go around blaming just anything on this Democrat or that Socialist. If you don't listen day in and day out AND don't understand that the show is laced with satire, then you should hold your tongue until you really know what's being said.

Well at least we can agree on Szasz whose critiques of psychiatry are brilliant. The Cato Institute has been quite critical of Bush lately, I guess you've noticed.

Since my posts tend to reflect what the Republicans often spew as their agenda, many seem to believe that I support this Party. This is far from the truth. I despise the current administration and feel that it is more despotic than the previous one. Every day I see new encroachments on my liberties and listen to the morons who support this, under the delusion that it will guarantee security.

wasnt michael moore the fat idiot i saw on tv tring to be the jesus christ of the left and talking about how president bush needs to be brought to justice for his enron dealings. ha! what a crock of shit. and yeah, chomsky is a very good writer when it comes to half truths and disinformation, but he does a brilliant job of making it look like facts, but if he told me the sky was blue, i would still go check it out for myself.

and even though you people may criticize rush, he is almost always right about what he says and predicts. plus if he is such a bumbling idiot like you guys say he is, why is he the #1 radio talkshow in america?

Rush is an idiot.
Rush is the number one talkjock in the country.
Therefore, most people who listen to talk radio are....

musclebrains,

actually there was a survey done that showed people who get their news from talk radio have a higher income and education level than those who get it from tv.

Perhaps but Rush is not a news show.

what you describe sounds more Libertarian than Republican.

you may find doing a search on the Libertarian party to be interesting
