Running probs...need advice

What's up everyone,
I've been doing some serious weight training this summer and soon want to start working in running (3-4 days a week). I'm training to play soccer next spring. I need to start running to work on my endurance...but when I run on concrete (pavement) my shins kill! My Heel started hurting on one foot, and my feet feel like they're cramping up a bit. Even my knees start to ache. What's up with that? I was wondering if you have any tips on running...what I can do to get rid of these pains. In the winter I'll be jogging on an indoor track at the YMCA. Maybe the surface will be more forgiving? I can't run on anything but the track or concrete because I'm right smack in the middle of the city. Any help would be much appreciated!

first, you need to find the softest surface available to run on, and for the shin splints you should strengthen your shin muscles by either walking on your heels for a period of time, or by doing toe raises with weights on your feet, and what kind of shoes are you wearing?

I'm wearing Asics running shoes - with gel. I think I have flat feet and should be wearing a shoe with more heel support. What shoe do you recommend? Do you think the indoor track would be better than pavement for running on?

awwwwww when it starts to hurt when you walk/run its a sign of flat feet :/

what can I do to help the problem?

If I have flat feet - what can I do to help the pain when running?

Thriller - I'm in the T-Dot...central YMCA - yonge/grovesner downtown...do you go there?

if you have flat feet you should wear a motion control shoe, go to www.runnersworld.com and on the left hand side go to shoe finder and enter in all the required information, and it will give you a list of shoes you should buy. What is the indoor track made of?

na im in sauga i go to the one in sauga sometimes.
but i dont liek the ballers there all to much.

what school you go to if your in school??

I'll find out what the track is made of - I havent run on it yet so I'm not sure...but I'll tell you tomorrow.
As for school...I'm 24, been out of school for awhile - but the ball is wicked at the downtown YMCA! I love playin ball...going to start playing again late this month.

o well honeslty i havnt been platyin alot lately but i cant wait till this season me and my boys are going to kill peel ball

Pell region eh!

I played T-dot ball against Jamal Magliore and Colin Charles...was playin with Magliore this summer too...the kid hasnt changed! Decent decent guy, no ego or nothin'. I hope he has a good career in the "L". What HS do you go to? I balled at Loyola in grade nine..then moved downtown toronto.

Go get your feet checked out...
I went to my chiropractor.. they had this electrical analysis thing you walk on and it figures out what parts of your feet are flat/not normal.
Anyways, they gave me some custom inserts for my shoes.. and bam, in less than a month my shins were perfect again. At first you can only wear them for an hour a day though because it just kills your feet when they are trying to get used to them. You gradually work your way up to wearing them all the time.. I honestly only use mine for when I run now.. They cost $300 CND (im in Vancouver)

Hope that gives you some insight
Thanks
ryan
