Rules for cutting...?

all you guys that have been through the cutting phases post up what works for you. golden rules not to break. carb, pro, fat ratios, how many cals per bodyweight etc etc..... lets see if we can get some foundational facts that we can all use when necessary...

I think the rules for cutting will depend upon what kind of diet you are using...
A keto diet has much different rules than an isocaloric of the CRUM diet... Some rules that might apply to all would be:

1) eat less than what is need for maintenance.
2) drink as much water as you can tolerate.
3) do some form of cardio
4) be disciplined...

Essential rules: (the first 5 are the most important)

1. Be in a hypercaloric state(eat less than your body burns). This requires you to actually count calories and not guesstimate.

2. Weight train to signal the body to keep muscle.

3. Eat a balanced diet. Don't start out on a low-fat or low-carb diet from the get go.

4. Eat at least 1g of protein per pound of LBM. More is fine but don't go less.

5. Consume adequate EFA's(2/3 of total fat intake) and keep saturated fats to 1/3 or less of total fat intake.

6. Consume a lot of fiber(essential for healthy bowels and also filling).

7. Consume ample water(dehydration while dieting is common and water is also filling).

8. Focus on whole or natural carbohydrate sources and stay away from processed sugars.

9. Refeed occasionally to keep leptin levels up and make your dieting easier in the long run. To ensure the best results count calories and carbs on refeed days and treat it as important as a normal diet day.

Cardio is by no means required to burn fat. Anyone who still believes this has a lot to learn. I'm not saying it isn't helpful or even good for your health. However I am saying that it is not "essential" as some are led to believe. I have anything but a gifted metabolism and I was able to get lean last year with diet and weight training only. You don't believe me? Look at all the fat fucks on the cardio machines day in and day out at the gym and tell me if they ever look like they're losing fat. Weight training is king for fat loss, cardio is second.

Also stay away from extreme diets like low-carb or ultra low-fat diets. They may work but there's no reason to suffer through these types of diets until you get to a point where you need to. You should be able to achieve 90% of your weight loss on a simple balanced diet and then from there you can decide to take it up a notch.

This is experience gained from many trips down to low bodyfat levels. I've tried just about every conceivable diet you can think of, along with training methods, and I can tell you this. All that is required to lose weight is listed above. Weight train, achieve a hypocaloric state while consuming ample protein and EFA's, consume plenty of water and the rest is fluff. You don't need ALA, ECA, T3, DNP, Yohimburn, Bromo, etc... This is all helpful but not required by any means. If you believe these compounds are required for fat loss then you don't put enough stress on the importance of a good diet.

Personally speaking, I am a firm believer of the following combination for cutting:

1) Nutrition
2) Cardio
3) Weight Train

The above three are EQUALLY important TO ME. Let's face it guys, there is no hard set rules when it comes to fitness / bodybuliding. Everybody is different and reacts to different stimulus differently.

For me, MORNING EMPTY STOMACH CARDIO was very important and it helped me tremendously to cut. Keep that in mind and maybe it will help you also.

Ditto! Although now, I have cut back on the cardio and upped the intensity and still losing weight. So it may look like

1)nutrition
2)weight train
3)cardio

For me that is!! Good luck!

the things mentioned above are all important. I would like to add one though.

- Set a realistic concrete goal. Like i am going to be 194 pounds with a Bf of 8%.

Do not try for i want to be as low in bf as possible with as much weigth as possible. Setting a concrete goal you can achieve with dedication will keep you a lot more motivated
