Rotator Issue - What's the best way....

surfkook

New member
to work chest & still allow my injury to heal normally?

Injury is a minor impingement on the bicep tendon, but can be painful and don't want it to get worse..........do I avoid Chest entirely??

Thank you in advance

I was told to completely stop chest work when I injured my rotator cuff... but I just couldn't. So all I did was DB flat bench presses with really light weight. I stopped the rest of my chest training though. Didn't seem to irritate my shoulder.

I am still in the rehab process from when I strained my rot cuff (bout 3 months ago). chest day is the only day that my injury really hurts, so I stopped doing flat bench bbell and lowered my weight on other exercises. Incline bbell and flat dbell still hurts, but not as bad. the key is to be patient.

Surfkook, I had a similar injury. If you surf, does it bother you in the water? I know mine did. I bought some bands and started doing lots of shoulder rotation work prior to going to the gym, but also prior to surfing. I still did flat press, but I just kept it light and after a couple of months the pain was gone. My doc told me to stop surfing for a while, but that was not possible :).

O-head

Unfortunately, partially torn MCL too so surfkook is on the sand right now. But prior to MCL injury, was surfing 3-4 days a week w/little discomfort from the impingement. It seems sleeping on it wrong, and heavy chest results in the most pain - hence my question/concern....

Stuck to just incline flies w/less weight and dips last night, and it felt pretty good - will try to stick w/the less weight approach and lengthy warmup for now.

Thanks for the tips.....
