I decided to bail on my flag football game this afternoon and take it easy

Flag football huh? HOW FUN!! I am so jealous...is it a co-ed team or just a womans team? How long have you been playing? (sorry for all the questions, I am just curious!) :qt:

I am so glad to hear that you were able to rest on Saturday as well as some RT pampering time! ;)

Hi IP! :wavey: It is a lot of FUN! It's a co-ed team - 8 team members on the field the entire time with a minimum of 3 women. Every third play has to be a girl play, so yes, the girls' have a good bit of pressure on them. It's sponsored by my gym which is how I was coerced to sign up ("it's great cardio" :lmao: ). We however haven't been great at coordination and haven't been able to win any one of our three games yet. The guys are all huge (being from the gym) and almost too big to move around quick enough in the limited space we have for flag football. Last week, the other team told us that if it were a bench pressing competition, we'd totally have them beat after they knocked us out 40-0!!

I don't remember below 120 before? Real weight or just water? How are you feeling?

Thanks, Mermaid! :rose: I saw under 120 a couple of times last weekend right at the end of my 20 day dry/cheat meal free spell too. Not sure if it is real weight or water weight, but overall, I think I've definitely dropped 1-2lbs. These clean eating stretches definitely seem to be working better than my one cheat meal/week that I was doing before. I'm sure you'll be seeing that on your end too. And I do feel good. :)

I may be changing up the diet in a week or so. I think your motto of "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" is finally sinking in. I haven't been thrilled with the lady who has been giving me my eating plan. To her credit, she got me down from 23-16% bf fairly quickly with one binge meal a week, but I really need to budge from this 15.5-16% range that I've been stuck at for four months now. I haven’t been able to match up her logic with what I read on here, so I’m losing some faith in her credibility.

So after some research, I may be going with a Beverly Int'l plan. I know a few ladies on this forum have had luck with it and Slat1 was kind enough to point me to them a while ago. It’s expensive to buy their supplements, but I figure I will give them a shot for 4-6 weeks to see what happens. I feel like I’m so close to the end that I can’t give up or hover at the same spot for ages. Details to come....if anyone has any comments on Beverly Int'l, I'd love to hear them!

1 1/2 cups oatmeal
3 scoops vanilla protein powder
2 scoops chocolate protein powder
1/4 cup natural peanut butter
1/2 cup unsweetened organic applesauce
1/2 cup egg whites

Congrats on getting below 120! ;) Nice work!

Good luck with the new plan as well. I have a friend who competes and they use a Beverly Intl resource for their diet. It has worked really well for her!

HIIT on the Philly Art Museum steps in the spring...you really are trying to make me jealous! haha!

Have a good Monday, Rooney!

Hiya ladies! :wavey: Today was a rough day.... after this morning’s cardio, I realized my shins are super sore from sprinting and yesterday's stair climb and that my body is rather achy overall. I've been very unproductive all day as a result. I've taken some Ibuprofen, skipped my evening class and cancelled my upper body workout with my trainer this evening. I think my body just needs a break!

Thanks IP! I am feeling a tad better today and may venture back to the gym tonight for some upper body work.

Here's a public service announcement to everyone reading:

S-T-R-E-T-C-H!!!

Do not underestimate the power of stretching after HIIT stair climbing unless you want to be hobbling around like I am right now.

How them legs feeling Roony? :D

Tues, 3/28

I started the day with some leftover leg and back soreness, but unfortunately, I developed a fever and chills mid-afternoon and ended up leaving work early. I also feel slightly nauseous. I called my doctor’s office and they can’t say the symptoms are related for sure. I could be hit by a separate virus unrelated to overtraining. Anyway, I have been in bed since 4pm and am on pain killers and muscle relaxers for now. :worried:

Obviously, I haven’t made it to the gym and am thanking my good sense for not pushing myself in there last night or this morning (I woke up like clockwork at 5:45 am for morning cardio :verygood: ). For now, I just plan to keep my eating clean and may just take a break from training for a few days! :bawling:

Scale weight: 118lbs

9am:
4 oz broiled white flounder (seasoned with lemon juice, paprika and cayenne pepper)
10 stalks cooked asparagus
1 slice Ezeikal bread
1 tangerine

Noon:
½ cup oats
½ cup egg whites
1 apple

2:30pm:
3 oz grilled chicken
Grilled veggies:spinach, eggplant, tomatoes, onions, hot peppers
I wanted to  after this meal.

6:35pm:
2 home-made protein bars

9:30pm:
1 scoop ON whey mixed with water
1 home-made protein bar (this is the only thing I can find somewhat appetizing right now to put down)

Totals: ~1230 cals (127g carbs, 129g protein, 28g fat)

Wed, 3/29

Thanks for all the well-wishes and health vibes!!. I took the day off work and have spent most of it in bed. I did make a visit to my chiropractor and I think my lower back feels better because of her adjustments.

The fever and chills have stopped today, but I had some nausea, so I just stuck to shakes for half the day. I felt better by evening to have a proper meal.

Thurs, 3/20

Still not better :( Had a rough day yesterday. Made it into work but had trouble sitting at my desk all day. I bailed on my evening class and tried to come home as early as I can

I had no appetite and barely ate. I knew I was really sick when even the ANPB seemed unappealing!!

9am:
1 scoop ON whey mixed with water
1 slice Eziekal toasted bread
1 tangerine

1pm:
I turkey burger patty
1 slice Eziekal bread

1 slice Ezeikal bread
Any thought of protein made want to

Came home to a high fever and terrible tailbone pain so I just lay in bed till I fell asleep a little after 8pm. I just got up and forced down an apple at 4:30am the next day. I'm just frustrated because I don't think I have the right diagnosis. Sigh!

Thanks ladies!! :bigkiss: I just came back from the doctor's office after a series of tests and the verdict is I have a kidney infection. Joy! But seriously, I am just happy to know what I have. I got antibiotics and am told I should feel better by tomorrow afternoon and may be able to workout again by Mon or Tuesday. I didn't eat super clean today just because food just needs to go into my system without me

So far, I have half a glass of OJ at the doctor's office because I thought I was going to pass out and then got some tuna salad on a low carb roll with soy chips. I momentarily thought about fast food, but after reading abt the guilt that SG felt, I decided I didn't need to aggravate myself anymore :D

Thanks Bunns! That said, I'm going to take a break for the next few days from logging. I just need to get food down right now, clean or not so clean. Plus I don't want to overexert my kidneys with a ton of protein. However, this is not an excuse for an all out crap fest but will contain healthy as opposed to clean foods. I am looking at heading back to the gym next Wed as of now. Wish me luck....being sick sucks! :bawling:

Hey, chicka. How are you feeling?

Thanks for checking in! I'm feeling a little better and am back at work. I didn't realize a kidney infection was a little more serious than I originally thought. So I'm going to just take this entire week off and maybe even next week. Apparently it takes 2 weeks to fully recover. My appetite is shot because of the antibiotic I'm on and I seem to have gained 8-9lbs of scale weight due to meds too. :jarswim: But being sick and weak made me realize I never really appreciated the current state of my body till I lost it. I was always trying to push myself to sprint a little faster and lift a little more and never ever stopped to think of where I already was. Now I know better...

I'll still stop in here a few times a day :)

The worst illness I ever had was a kidney infection. I let it go on a little too long before seeking help and consequently I lost 20 pounds in weight and almost all of my hair. In fact, my hair, which was a full head of natural thick curls became thin, fine and slightly wavey. It's never recovered. And to this day I suffer from UTIs and kidney "ache" when I am run down.

So please take time to recover fully. You have nothing without your health.

I wish you nothing less than a FULL speedy recovery ... and to have your self back in no time. Im sorry you are sick...aspecially with something so scary. Feel better real soon

Hey, Roony! Just now getting to your log. I'm sorry to hear about the kidney infection. I have UTI's quite a bit and the doc's could never figure out, as servere as they get, how I've never had a kidney infection. I don't know either, but I'm glad I'm a lucky one. Drink LOTS of water and grab some cranberry extract (concentrated pill form - not juice). You should be better any day!!!! Hope all is well with you! :rose:

Thanks so much for all the well-wishes, ladies!! :rose:

It's hard to go from the level of actvity I was at to having to now just focus on getting better. But I'm trying to make the best of it. I have to call the doctor again to see if there is anything he can do about the bloating and lack of appetite. I think it's a side-effect of the meds. But I almost feel like there is an alien life form growing inside me at this point :worried:

I can't wait to get better and be back to logging here!!

Turns out I am not home free yet. I got a call from the doctor's office and my blood work showed that I am/was really sick. The doctor wants to make sure I don't have more than a kidney infection like a kidney blockage etc. :worried:

So now I have to get a kidney ultrasound done this week. The soonest I could get one scheduled is for this Friday. I'll admit I'm a little scared. Some of the reasons I'm googling for kidney blockage include eating a diet high in protein and low in fibre.....ARGH!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best!

I miss you guys too. I'm feeling eons better :) , but I won't get my complete clean bill of health till the end of this week. I got a kidney ultrasound taken on Friday and then I get bloodwork done again this Wed. Every test seems to require a 3-5 day turnover time. But the fever, chills, aches are gone so I'm taking that as a good sign till proven otherwise.

No real food coma, Bunns....I'm just eating like a normal person for now but not totally clean (whole grain cereal/soymilk, fruit, grilled chicken in whole wheat wrap etc.) Ironically, my scale weight has dropped but I think it's just because my muscles aren't holding on to water anymore. I do hope my muscle is not falling off me so quickly. But the good news is I'm going back to the gym today after three loooong weeks and will be starting back slow. I can't wait!! I've felt like a blob this whole time with no real activity.

Thanks for checking in on me :rose:

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better too......and you know you'll feel even BETTER once you're back in the gym. :rose:

Thanks everyone!! :rose: I got my ultrasound results back and there was no blockage or tumors. It essentially seems like I just got hit with a bad kidney infection. I had follow-up blood work this morning and hopefully those results will show I'm fully back to normal.

I went back to the gym on Monday evening. Worked out my upper body and it doesn't seem like I've lost too much strength and I didn't even feel sore the next day....I may have to work up to the intensity I was at before, but I'm looking forward to just being active again.

I'll be logging meals again too. I threw out my half-full cereal box today and am back to oatmeal. Interestingly, eating like a "normal" person for 2 full weeks was not everything it was cracked up to be.

Hey Rooney!

As far as Whole Foods. They do have Ezekiel wraps. They will be in the refridgerated bread section...should be close to the frozen foods. There will be jerk spice in the spice section. You may also be able to find a paste, but they sometimes have sugar in them. If you can find one without sugar, definitely go for it.

What else did you have in mind as far as what you wanted to cook? Let me know and I can tell what's really good there.

Thanks everyone!! :rose: It's great to be back...I've missed logging and felt lost without it.

Thanks, Fly! I will definitely pick up the wraps and the jerk spice. I'm not sure what else I want to cook. I generally stick to grilled meats/poultry/fish with veggies and nothing too fancy beyond that. I do want to get into crockpot/slow cooker recipes. Anything you can recommend for that - spices, pastes etc.? Also, it is worthwhile buying actual meats/poultry/fish at Whole Foods or am I better off sticking to the local Acme for that sort of stuff? I guess the reason I never really bothered with Whole Foods till now is that their prices scared me off. Trader Joes in comparison is so reasonable, so that's why I always leaned toward them.

Thanks, gals!! :rose: I've missed being here and I still have a lot of catching up to do.

Getting sick will do that to you sometimes. I did lose about half of that with clean eating and no cheats. But my scale weight just plummeted further unfortunately for the 2-3 weeks that I was out of commission. So I may have lost some muscle, but hopefully not too much. All I can do for now is to get back on program and I am getting back into lifting 3x/wk from next week on...yay! Let's just say I'm not going to complain if my scale weight creeps back up to about 118-120lbs. ;)

Roony I've been looking for some of the foods you have listed because they sound like things I might want to try. My local grocery stores don't have 99% of them. We have one vitamin shop other than GNC that carries "specialty" food items. Other than that Wal-mart, Kroger & Marsh are all I have to choose from and their selection is less than sufficient. Boca-Burger items seem to be what they carry the most of.

Do you order them online or do you live in a city that has a big specialty food store?

My lower body is so sore today that it hurts to walk up from my first floor to my second floor. You would think I took a break from working out for a year instead of just 3 weeks! Looks like I will spend most of the day in a seated or lying position :D

Scale weight: 114.5lbs

11am:
Chocolate protein drink
- 1 cup liquid egg whites
- ½ cup chocolate soy milk
1 cup red grapes

2pm:
Raspberry Protein Waffles
- ½ cup blended oats
- 1 scoop vanilla whey powder
- ½ cup liquid egg whites
- ½ cup blended fresh raspberries

Took a long afternoon nap so I missed eating in between

6:15pm:
6oz broiled catfish filet
½ cup brown rice
8 stalks grilled asparagus
10 oz diet Pepsi with lime

9pm:
6 oz cooked shrimp
10 stalks grilled asparagus
½ cup brown rice
10 oz diet Pepsi with lime

Totals: ~1275 cals (132g carbs, 134g protein, 20g fat)
Macros: ~42c/43p/15f

My glutes and quads are still killing me! Seriously, between still having to pee frequently from the kidney infection and all these aches, I really feel like I have the foresight in knowing what it’s like to be a senior citizen :worried:

Where's the H20?? :worried:
You may be like me, I drink it but don't usually write it down. I hate to write it if i don't know the exact amt. i drank ;)

Hey Que! I mostly get my food from a local grocery store chain (Acme) that's close to me. I would think it's similar to a Kroger. What food are you having trouble locating exactly? I do sometimes go to Trader Joes, which is more of a specialty food store, but the only items specifically that I get there that I can't get anywhere else is almond butter and Ezeikal bread. I know almond butter can easily be ordered online, but I'm not totally sure about the Ezeikal bread.

Oh, I just don't write it down. I just log other beverages like diet soda and juice when I do drink 'em. Generally, I drink about 100-120oz during the week but am not as good over the weekend. It's an excuse to get up from my desk at work whereas at home over the weekends, I tend to forget with all the running around.

Whooaaaaaaa, Nelly!!!! That scale is STILL goin' down!!!! :worried:

....however; the sore butt & quads are making me smile! Good job! :) I'll bring you a walker @ Treil's show! :D

About the meats...are you concerned with things being organic and such? If not, feel free to buy them from Acme or TJ's. I agree...TJ's is SO much cheaper. I only buy certain things from Whole Foods now...no point in spending unnecessarily.

As far as the slow cooker...you can definitely do stews in there. A cut up chicken with garlic, onion, peppers, italian seasoning, and some crushed tomatoes would be good. Olives would be a good addition to that. I've cooked beans in there as well, so you could definitely do a spicy chili in there. I think I posted a veggie chili recipe in the recipe thread.

I'm sure I can think of a few other things...

DOMS...yessss! Any idea when you are changing your nutritionist?

Have a good one!

Here are some things I've looked for and can't seem to find locally: jerk spice, Ezekial wraps, almond butter, power butter, wasa crackers, soy pasta and a host of other things I've read about in journals. I've looked in the fridge sections, health foods sections, diet sections, organic sections, etc. etc.

There's a little hole-in-the-wall vitamin store with some organic foods but if there's an inch of dust on the package I'm not buying it. Hard tellin how long it's been there. I just didn't want to drive an hour to the nearest decent sized food store that might carry this stuff.

It's interesting that you ask me this today. Prior to getting sick, I had decided to try a Beverly Int'l diet for 6-10 weeks for the final stretch of cutting. I ordered all the supplements recommended (~$300 worth) and the box arrived right after I was diagnosed with kidney problems. This weekend I made the tough decision to return it all despite the 20% restocking fee I'll be charged. I've just decided to focus on my health for the next 2-3 months and cut my body some slack. Having to go for an ultrasound and worry about tumors has slightly changed my perspective. I've learned to appreciate what I have...so for now, I'm happy to maintain in the 15% bf range and just enjoy my workouts. I've never really had to deal with anything beyond the common cold, cough and flu before so this whole ordeal was hard for me to handle. It made me realize that without my health intact, nothing else matters.

Thanks for the recipe suggestions and Whole Foods tips. I've made a list on what I need to get from there and will be trying out your turkey chilli recipe soon.

Hope you had a nice Sunday!

That's a shame, Que. My suggestions to you are:

1) Talk to the store manager of your Kroger and Walmart and see if they have any plans to bring any of these products in soon. Sometimes, they do take suggestions from their customers

2) If you do have a Trader Joes or Whole Foods Market within an hour of you, it may be worthwhile to take that drive. A lot of the items you mention above keep well, so you may only have to go periodically to stock up.

3) Order online. One website in particular, Netrition.com, has quite a few of these items available and their shipping is only $4.95 per entire order I believe. That may even be cheaper than driving with the price of gas right now.

Good luck! :rose: :)

I was going to PM this to you, but what the heck... I am NOT making this about me, but I want you to know I can completely relate to this Roony ... really, this is the way I found out I had "C" ... just turned out that mine CT scan & round of tests found a blood cancer out of the friggin blue. I was even prescribed meds for a kid infection etc before I checked myself in the ER ... WTF?!

My last doc appt, proved difficult, but a reality I knew I would have to face at some point ... future health issues will be there & YES I can live with one kid b/c there is damage to one from 'everything' ...

I am relieved MORE THAN YOU KNOW that you are ok & wish nothing but a healthy and happy life for you. ALWAYS ...

"made me realize that without my health intact, nothing else matters..."

^^ You couldn't be so right on honey ...

I think this is going to become a weekday staple. This is how much of a dork I've become: I brought my own stash of Flat Out Carb Down tortillas and gave it to the cafeteria at work to use to make for my wraps. I couldn't get the macros or ingredients on their supposed "whole wheat" wraps so I didn't feel comfortable not knowing what the heck I was putting in my mouth. Also I let them use their "low fat" swiss cheese yesterday, but from today on, I'm bringing in 2 slices of my own cheese (that I weigh out) to give to them too. :verygood: :qt:
