Romney caught on hidden cam saying messed up $hit

Have we all forgotten...

"It's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." --explaining his troubles winning over some working-class voters

That got some press, but not like this is getting. And I'm sure those that are bashing Romney now thought that it was just fine for Obama to berate half of America then.

So now Romney did the same exact thing that Obama did. Give him time and he will make more foolish comments just like Obama has.

"The point I was making was not that Grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn't. But she is a typical white person, who, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know, you know, there's a reaction that's been bred in our experiences that don't go away and that sometimes come out in the wrong way, and that's just the nature of race in our society."

"No, no. I have been practicing...I bowled a 129. It's like -- it was like Special Olympics, or something." --making an off-hand joke during an appearance on "The Tonight Show", March 19, 2009 (Obama later called the head of the Special Olympics to apologize).

"I didn't want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about doing any seances." --after saying he had spoken with all the living presidents as he prepared to take office, Washington, D.C., Nov. 7, 2008 (Obama later called Nancy Reagan to apologize)

...and the list goes on

ololololol!

that's fugged up :worried:

So basically he was smart to win before saying stupid shit?

This racist remark, "It's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." was made before he won the presidency.

By your own words then does that make him dumb or just lucky?

you are purposefully evading the context here CEO, the two statements in their inten couldn't be more diametrically opposed. Obama went on to say that even those people he described, who have zero intention of voting for him, cannot be belittled or marginalized. Hardly the same sentiment Rommo shared in his private fund raiser eh? go look at the full transcripts.

Romney had excuses too bro.

His next move should be to comment about a "typical black person" now. Hell, he could just get elected!

What race was offended by "clinging to religion"? because Southern blacks tend to be pretty religious.

To me that just sounds like a very polite and respectful way to describe the stupid ass red neck racist hillbillys around the coal country of Pennsylvania and West Virginia, which is who he was talking about. :)

Barack Obama’s big loss in the Kentucky primary reignited questions about how much white racism is hurting the Democratic front-runner. As in West Virginia, more than 20 percent of voters called race a factor, and the white vote went overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton. But the same night, Obama won 57 percent of white voters in Oregon. I talk about this contradiction in my Current video this week (text continues below).

2008 Elections - Salon.com

except he made a point to say that they shouldn't be minimized or trivialized by his party, that they matter as well even if they have zero intention of voting for him or democrat in general. So he wasn't even really making a back handed insult like you're implying. He was being real....when people feel left out by the system they cling to what gives them hope or purpose. Some latte sipping city liberal doosh just can't figure out why in todays world anybody still gives a shit about guns...he's become divorced from other people's realities and Obama was making the point that you can't do that. I give him great credit for this even though i don't think he's been an effective president...partly due to the political environment that we have now. No one could president now. Only someone who is willing to reinvent the govt, and in reality our society...is going to work.

You are right. You're preaching to the choir.

It's fun watching the right wing propaganda machine slowly fall apart, isn't it? This quote didn't mean shit 4 years ago, and they dig it back up, like people are going to give a crap about it now.
CEO, you are being a good soldier for your cause, but the desperation is starting to show. :worried:

the willful video editing is disgusting. Romney's tape was aired in it's entirety, nobody chopped it. It's pathetic what they're doing. Every time obama says' anything they autotune him.

What race was offended by "clinging to religion"? because Southern blacks tend to be pretty religious.

You're right, racist was a poor word choice. Perhaps "bigoted" would have been better?

Then if, according to you, there's nothing wrong at all with Obama's "polite and respectful" description of small-town Americans, I guess there's nothing wrong with Romney's description of Obama's supporters.

Your words, not mine.

Thanks!

I guess it's OK then to insult several large groups of people, as long as you say that you really do care about them, or that they really matter, or something to that effect. Nah, not back-handed at all. Who you tryin to kid?

By the way, MM is a small town Pennsylvanian. I bet she feels the same way about Obama's comments as you do though. He can say some shit like that and "typical white person" and people applaud and love him even more.

Except that Romney is facually incorrect.
So its not just a window into his attitude, but into his ignorance.

I bet when you heard Obama say what he said about people clinging to their guns and religion, you were so shocked you dropped your bible and your shotgun :)

And it appears your (and redsam's) hypocrisy knows no bounds.

It would be hypocricy if you could establish equivalence between the 2 statements, but you can't. Its another right wing deception that is failing. I think Carl Rove is losing his touch.

Same could be said for Obama.

I'm a pretty big religious nut bro. Careful or I may beat you with my giant KJV reference bible!

both bigoted. established. But you refuse to accept that because in your eyes Obama's statements are never bigoted. He can do and say no wrong as far as you're concerned. Thus your hypocrisy.

And I do admit that Romney said some stupid shit. He's probably looking at it from the standpoint of a CEO. He is convinced that everyone would be better off under his leadership, but he knows that he can't convince everybody of that. So he figures it would be a waste of time and resources to try.

He should never have said those things the way he did publicly. And he's a fool if he thought a fundraiser dinner was private.

Obama's said stupid shit, so did Bush, Clinton, Bush Sr., Reagan, Carter, Nixon, etc. People say stupid shit. Timing and how they handle it is what usually matters (unless it's Obama apparently). :D

How is he insulting people who openly demograph themselves in the exact same way he described them? If you actually did take time to read or listen to the full transcripts, which i don't think you have...how are you not seeing he's admonishing his own base for marginalizing those people? FFS man nobodys extrapolating anything here it's in the mans own words. But did you not get that Romney is painting all 48% of the voting populace that swings for democrats as people on govt handouts..?? The two statements couldn't be more diametrically opposed in their spirit. Romney is dismissing, trivializing, marginalizing all those people who don't want to vote for him as being welfare bums. I get it, he probably let his mouth go a little seeing where he was....but these things have consequences.

I get that Romney wrote off the "47%" and Obama was telling his people not to write anyone off. I've read the transcripts and I know that BO said, "You can go in the toughest neighborhood, you know, working-class lunch-pail folks, and you'll find Obama enthusiasts. And you can go into places where you’d think that I'd be very strong, and people will just be skeptical."

What he probably shouldn't have said was the other stuff about the small town PA, OH, and other midwest states people "clinging to guns and religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them, or anti-immigrant sentiment, or anti-trade sentiment."

But going back to your first sentence there, let's ask a small town Pennsylvanian if he describes himself in the exact same way as Barack Obama described him.

Digi? Would you describe yourself as, bitter, and clinging to guns or religion, or antipathy toward people who aren't like you, or anti-immigrant sentiment, or anti-trade sentiment at all? Even if it were as a way to explain any frustrations you may have with government and how/if you feel the gov't has possibly misrepresented you?

Let's see if a small town Pennsylvanian actually does describe himself that way redsam. Let's see if you are correct about what you state as so seemingly factual.

jesus knows you're lying sodomite, he's keeping a list and checking it twice. The conclusion was that all of them needed a high colonic....I swear i haven't laughed that hard in ages, i hurt in my ribs in places i've never hurt before. It's something every man should show is wife or g/f when they act like their shit don't stink. :lmao:

i see your point here, i agree. But he's probably right in characterizing how east and west coast libs view small town USA. I don't think he honestly feels that way about the people, although about some he's probably right.

I don't think he honestly feels that way about the people,

I honestly couldn't say either way. But I'd like to think you are right.

I'd also like to think that Romney (a mormon who served his church for two years on a mission caring for and serving people without compensation) also doesn't really feel that way about the people he was speaking about. Like I said in a previous post, I am sure he feels his plan would be better for everyone, but some would fight it tooth and nail and they wouldn't think it better.

although about some he's probably right.

Agreed, and Romney is probably right about some too.

So Mitt released his 2011 returns (along with a "summary" of the past 20 years - lol) and, bless his heart, only claimed $2.25 million in charitable donations compared to the $4 million he actually gave. Why not claim all of it? His campaign said that because he told the American people he always pays at least 13% in taxes, so he wanted to adjust his returns to match that.

Mitt Romney just a few months ago said:
I don’t pay more [taxes] than are legally due and frankly if I had paid more than are legally due I don’t think I’d be qualified to become president.

Seems like the race is over then?

The presidential nominee's great-grandfather Miles was asked in the late 1880s by Mormon officials to go to Mexico to create a colony where Mormons could practice polygamy far from the harassment of U.S. officials. It was there that Mitt Romney's grandfather Gaskell and father, George, were born into an increasingly prosperous family and Mormon community.

But in 1912, George, then 5, and his family fled, with thousands of other Mormons, to the U.S. — chased out by Mexican rebels and largely leaving their wealth behind.

"The Real Romney" reports:

"Fortunately for the Romneys, the U.S. government, which had once chased Miles to Mexico due to his polygamy, now welcomed the Romneys and other Mormons to the United States. Congress established a $100,000 relief fund that enabled the Romneys and other Mormon exiles to receive food and lodging.

Translation, Romney's father was on welfare.

my problem with romney is him becoming less mormon and more corporate CEO. And that perception is why he's finished. That 47% video sealed the deal cause if people aren't that enthused about how Obama's doing...they're infinitely less enthused about a "perceived" coroporate dooshbag butthole shill that will run the country in the way that had a hand in walking us into the worst economic downturn in 80 some years.

Romney's mistake was cutting himself out like a corporate CEO. At a time when corruption at those levels is being exposed on such a vast level, ie the Libor scandal, and at what is now becoming consistent intervals.....why would you go around trying to tell working class people that wall street is too hamstrung by regulations? ?

To add to DT's post

Mitt Romney's business successes are due to Him taking out loans with the Federal government (tax payers $) and gambling it on businesses.
And government is "too big" blah blah blah. He had no problem with government when he was asking it for money to gamble.

DrOiD BioNiC EF App!

The race to the bottom is already over; Doesn't matter which wing of the oligarchy you vote for, the arithmetic and mutual policies wins every time. People are just squabbling over who gets to be captain of the Titanic.

I want to see an actual return from prior to 2009 and here is why. You can still amend your tax return going back three years, I think. Now that he has put 2010 and 2011 out there he is perfectly free to go back and claim all those deductions he left on the table. I want to see a text return that he cannot go back and adjust after it is released to the public. He has said several times that he pays the taxes that he owes and nothing more, so why did he leave millions of dollars on the table REALLY?

I want all deductions eliminated from the tax code. Central planners can't magically determine outcomes via social engineering. Why should a lifelong renter subsidize homeowners to fuel a housing bubble? Should someone that chooses to not have children subsidize people that choose to have children? Why does an atheist have to subsidize religion, studies have shown billions are lost to that one "non-profit" alone. If you're a non-profit then you won't make a profit, which means you'll never pay income tax.

There is a consensus among economists that taxes on savings, including capital gains, are the most detrimental taxes; Tax capital gains as "normal income" and you're likely to lose your job as the money flows into real estate speculation and commodities; Which the government/fed are banking on to re-inflate the bubble.

US tax policy set the groundwork for the S&L crisis because the tax reforms changed the depreciation schedule to make commercial real estate less attractive as a tax haven. As investors fled and the market crashed the S&L's were holding toxic commercial loans they tried to daisy chain but just like the current crisis the market collapsed.

At the very least, we need a no deduction system in the income tax. Let people be responsible for their own health insurance by disconnecting it from employment.I would also like to see a systemic reform that requires workers to pay 100% of payroll taxes by writing a check quarterly to the treasury so they all know how much medicare, social security, and unemployment are costing them. Only then, can we start to have a real conversation about the role of government; Placing the burden on employees to pay the taxes they owe as opposed to forcing employers to act as de facto tax collectors for the government would boost GDP as those resources are freed up for reinvestment in the business.

Stop.

stick a fork in him he's done. Fuck that guy for making me vote for Obama. That's not a gaffe kiddies. If this is verified, and it looks like it is....there's gonna be alot of prominent republicans that are going to light him up for those statements. Obviously no one from Fox...i said "prominent". And he talks about class warfare? omg....they hypocrisy here is too much. Sorry Gary Johnson, maybe next election.
