do you do this? if so why, and what is your max...a guy i knew at my old gym liked them, he was a 5'7 180 pound 20 year old. I remember seeing him get 315 for 5 reps easy. he competed in power lifting, his bench was 415 i believe. anyone else use reverse grip? why?

I've wondered the same thing. It looks like it would be much harder and very awkward.

yes it is, which means it takes a lot more to keep it under control, and harder on the wrists, joints, etc...i guess it just hits the pecs differently....and to think this guy was doing 315 for 6 reps easly(could have gotten 9 or 10) is amazing to me.

I used to them, but I started to have to them at to heavy of a weight which put a lot of stress on my wrists. Also it once rolled out of my hands and my spotter had to save me. I have a lot of people say that it is a good excersise for your tri's, and I can feel it when in my tri's when I do it, but I am sure if it is worth the risks.

I hear that those work very well also...

We do rev. grip 3 board presses for reps as a tricep builder. I have done these with either 315 or 365, I honestly cannot remember, for like 10 reps for 3 or 4 sets, and have benched 500 with a shirt in a meet and 525 with a shirt in the gym.

Rev. Grip is not at all a pec movement. Bench press is not even really a pec movement if you are trying to push big numbers, but that is a topic for another thread.

To answer the thread starters question, rev grip bench is used to build up the triceps. It is hard on the wrists, which is why I only do it to a 3 board.
