Reverse-Grip Bench
The reverse-grip bench press involves all of the same muscles that a standard bench press involves. I believe the reverse-grip bench press simulates a decline press to a degree. When taking a wide-grip it shortens the bench stroke. The chest, upper back, lats, arms and shoulders may be utilized to a greater degree. The triceps are stressed a little differently and a very strong peak contraction can be felt. The rotation to the shoulders is allowed a more favorable position, lessening the chance for injury. The only real disadvantage I can see to the variation is that it can be stressful to the wrists for some. Anthony Clark, Gary Franks and others have used the grip to great advantage. Their records prove that it is a viable variation with tremendous results.
