How effective?
How are they enforced?

Are they even enforced at all?

Help bitches. Got some out of control tricks on my ass.

(not really, but makes for a good story)

You have to cal the po-po top enforce them, generally they are pretty responsive if you have a restraining order - but like anything else you are at the whim of the indivuals who are responding.

Yep, you just call the cops and they come and get them out of there. I don't know if they get arrested or not for multiple offenses. Not sure.

My neighbor had one on her husband for a while. I saw him through my window coming to the house once and called the cops. While i was talking to them, I realized he was being escorted there WITH the cops to get his belongings out ogf the house. lol I told the policeman on the phone..."Nevermind..." and hung up.

What happens when the police get there? They make him leave?

Ok, what about a place of business? Like if they are in a resturant and I show up? Or if I am there and they show up.

Don't they have to stay 200 feet away? Cuz they would be eating in the car otherwise.

THe police just generally make them leave unless they were being a nuisance in some other way.

Alot of restraining orders end up being mutual so they'd make both parties leave.

You can't follow someone around and claim they were in violation of the order. The police aren't going to help you enforce that...

makes for a much easier defense if you have a restraining order against someone to kick their ass, or kill them if they come around..

after all.. you were afraid for your life..

Not sure about a restaurant. Cops gotta be assholes to tell the guy to leave if he's eating dinner. I have no idea.

But they do tell them to leave or maybe even get arrested. Not sure about that. Someone else may know that. The only time I called was when the cops were escorting him to get his clothes and stuff.

Place of business is the same thing. They can't be anywhere near you with the specified distance, but no answer for the resaurant thing. lol @ AAP wanting to have someone eat in their car.

Wha'ts wrong with that? It isn't like I wanted him to be denied a meal or anything.

I had a Final Protective Order against my exhusband and YES, THEY ARE ENFORCED. We are talking no calls, emails or being within (not sure anymore) hundreds of feet. He couldn't even have anyone contact me on his behalf.

All I had to do is call the cops and the SOB was picked up and locked up immediately.

And like a DUMBASS, within 4 months I dropped it. <----- next to marrying and having this piece of shit father my children, THE BIGGEST REGRET OF MY LIFE.

Moral of the story?

If the justice system actually works the way it is supposed to, then don't fuck it up by forgiving the motherfucker that MADE YOU seek out the protection of the law to begin with.

Condsider yourself summons with a "e" restraining order: from here on out no more PM request for cawk pics.

I was going to get one here recently but decided not to. Reason: the attorney I spoke to said a lot of times they backfire in the case of really crazy people because they are so offended that you actually put a restraining order on them they will purposely test it. You don't need an attorney however, I got one in the past. You just go to court and state your case.

This time I opted for more yard lights, and finishished fencing in my yard and have some nasty puppies. I have a lot of bullets to. This will all be too much for the petty bullshit we're talking about here.........I doubt the chickenshit would do anything other than try filling my gas tanks with sugar or something but that's still too much.

Yeah, I had to get one against my ex.

You have to call the cops when they break it. Some cops are cool. Others are stupid, ignorant dicks.

and rsnoble is right that it encourages the real control freaks to act like maniacs. That is what my ex did. He had his 18 year old punk son stalk me, mess with my car, break into the house whenever I was gone, etc.

Most cops in Florida are as useless as tits on a bull.

It was a formal hearing where I had to go before the court and prove that I was dropping it of my own free will, not having been coersed or anything of that sort.

Apparently, I was very convincing because if I weren't the court would not have allowed me to drop it.

Lucky me, for being so well-spoken .... eh? I sorta left out the part where my then attorney and es-husband collectively told me that if I dropped the order "as a show of good faith" then we could settle the divorce.

That was well-over 6 years and a judge ago....

BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE.
