replacement for squats and deadlifts?

I'm changing up current routine to keep shocking my muscles, and since my current routine (and many rountines before that) include squats and deadlifts, im wondering if i can continue doing them with good results, or should i take a break and mix it up a little?
 
I would leave the compound moves in...they are so great for strength and size...and just rotate your accesory work around.

Personal opinion. :)
 
You shake up squats and deadlifts by changing your bar grip, foot pattern, weights used, number of reps, etc...

You never drop them out of your program.

im doing a 5 day 5x5 routine right now, but im gonna bring it to a halt and change stuff up starting in May, most likely to a 4 day routine (summer job).
So i use squats and DLs as my main 5x5 lift, with enough intensity that i could crank off 2 more reps at the most (usually, sometimes more, sometimes less), but restrain myself to save energy for the rest of the routine.
my legs are still pretty small, my back is pretty good, but Im trying to build some width on my back, and anything i can get on my legs.

would you suggest i start doing more reps and lighter weight with the both of them?
any suggestions welcome
