Relative Strength

I guess this is in reply to silver_shadow, who suggested to eat in order to get stronger. I don't eat much now, but I'm still getting strength so I probably don't want to change much unless I'm after looks, which I'm not.

ps. creatine is amazing.

Cheers.
You can lift more weight on a lift in three basic ways:
Learning to do the lift better
Learning to recruit more muscle which is basically learning to strain better
Growing more muscle

I guess you could add in improving your conditioning and endurance in order that you can do more at higher reps rather than just working your 1RM.

During your early training, you exhaust the first two fairly rapidly and growing muscle becomes the primary reason for lifting more. As you progress, a lot comes from learning to recruit more muscle but that's a ways into the future for you. For now, you need to be growing.

Yes, creatine can be effective.

Yeah all good points.

For the record, I'm actually 140 pounds now, not 130 (that was my weight around late December). That's what creatine will do to you!

The thing is though guys, 10 months ago i weighed 130 and could barely bench the olympic bar, squatted 100lbs and used 6kg dumbbells for shoulder pressing. As you might have gathered, I was incredibly weak! Hence why I started going to the gym in the first place.

10 months on, I can put up 150lbs on the bench for 5 reps, squat 260 and deadlift 240. Of course, I'm not bragging about these weights because they are nothing special, but my point is, I have progressed pretty well strength wise without gaining a single pound (until I started taking creatine)!

umm... ur making gains without eating much (though i don't know exactly what ur eating - u haven't mentioned). well, that's good... eat more and ur gains will be even better. check out the diet boards... maybe u will get hungry :chomp:

My usual day food wise:

Healthy Breakfast
Healthy Lunch
Whatever I feel like at Dinner. Often it's junk.

With nothing in between.

I'm very lucky that whilst I do eat junk more often than I should, it doesn't seem to affect me.

Please don't tell me the fat is going to clog up around my heart and I'll die from a heart attack at age 25. :(

blut wump - I have gained muscle/tone, but my weight hasn't really gone up at all. Kind of strange.

It mostly depends on your body composition. You can lose fat and gain muscle simultaneously. My weight has hardly moved over the past 12 months but I have become leaner.

i think u'd do well to check out the diet boards. get a good idea about it. there is alot to learn and from the sounds of it. it will definitely be the difference between plateauing rather soon and getting to the next level and beyond. what does ur work out routine look like? u might want to try out the madcow 5x5 routine.

That would probably explain things. I do a lot of cardio.

Bill Starr's Power Routine is the one I do currently. Seems to work well but I change programs every few months. I like mixing things up.

I'll check the diet boards out!

samee, you have a great, positive attitude. I truly hope you'll listen (not saying you're not), because there are some great, intelligent people posting in your thread. And, if you'll notice, all of them have recommended eating more. I respect that you are not in this for looks. I think a lot of people would be better off if they were in the "not for looks" category (sorry, my opinion fell out).

However, as time goes by... you will want more muscle, more strength, or both. 140 lbs. is just the beginning. You are strong for your size, but you will want more...it's inherent in human nature. The good thing is that, assuming you are training properly and not creating injury, there is nothing "wrong" with working harder (and smarter) and eating more, so that you can keep the amount of muscle and strength gains steadily climbing.

You're 16, bud. You have more testosterone now, and during the next 7-10 years, then you will have for the rest of your life. Take advantage of it. Eat more. Read and learn. Apply your knowledge in the weight room and make the kind of gains that some of us only dream we could still have. :) I'm excited for you.

HAHAHAHAHA. THAT IS FUNNY....HAHAHHA

For a woman or a kid...I'd say that it is pretty good. My ex-girlfriend deadlifted 250 x 13 or 15 in a contest once but she was about 160 I think. No belt or straps I don't think either. She could also pull 315 for a few (with belt).

If you are a man...I'd suggest the See-Food diet.
