Rediculous bf calculation

Lee

New member
k, i was bodybuilding.com and they had some article on loosing fat, so i started reading it, and they had a calculator that asks for body weight then bf% so i put in 218 pound at 19% bf, which was an estimate i got from different people i asked atthe gym and on this board. it said i had 42 freakin pounds of fat, yet im 6'5" 218 pounds, to me this just seems rediculous, that would mean if i burned all my fat i would weight like 175 pounds at 6'5"! can this be true?

That's just basic math, man. No fancy calculator needed. If your total weight is 218 pounds and 81% of that is fat free mass...well, that's 176.58 pounds of fat free mass. Keep in mind that's bone, water, muscle, etc...all things other than fat.

I weigh 177, my body fat % is around 16%. My Lean body mass is 177 x .82 = 149 pounds lean mass....which is EXACTLY what my calipers, hydros, and bod pods all I say I have too.

damn, so if i wanted to get to 10% bodyfat i would have to drop 21 freakin pounds? that rediculous at my size, there is seriously no way i can do that

Yep.

No one said it was easy. :)

The best way to get to 10% is to take your time, eat right, and put on muscle. Muscle burns more cals 24/7, and by carb cycling you can fuel your training while also cutting the fat. In other words, instead of dropping fat to reach 10%, increase your muscle mass to reach 10% (while keeping your fat in check). Make sense? Now you see why AS/AAS is so popular...gaining muscle and losing fat at the same time is HARD work.

actually thats what ive been doin, i cant really stick to a cuting diet cuz i always feel exhausted, so i started just eating healthy, eating good carbs like dark green vegetables and milk and cottage cheese, and keeping my protein intake up, and ive actually been loosing fat cuz i do cardio every other day. im stayin at the same weight but i can now see my top 4 abs, which i havent been able to see since the 6th grade :D

Counter point though.... some people might consider trying to reduce bf and gain muscle spinning your wheels though, much like being the guy w/ the 6pac that wants to get big but wont let himself put on any fat first.

well im not looking for drastic results immediately, i know doing it this way takes longer, but it is very possible.

CL, I totally agree with you. This, again, is why AS/AAS is often used for this purpose...it is VERY hard, if possible at all, to put on alot of muscle while maintaining body fat...you're 110% correct. You do end up spinning wheels if you aren't VERY scientific about it, and even then it can be a very short lived success story...may work for a few weeks or months, and then you start getting that "overtrained" feeling. Carb cycling helps. :)
