I have been having a pretty crummy sleep lately. I don't know if gaining weight so quickly has something to do with it....but I often wake up with my arms asleep... can anyone give me advice on this? Thanks duderinos

if you're waking up with your arms asleep, you've aggravated a nerve somewhere. . .probably in your neck. . .happens to me from time-to-time. . .it usually straightens itself out pretty quickly. . .

thanks for the reply, a year ago it happend for a month straight, now it just started again, 50lbs heavier.. I hope it does soon, sleeping sucks right now.

i get it when i bench heavy or do heavy skull-crushers and i push my head back against the bench too hard. . .i have to remind myself to relax my neck muscles a little. . .

don't sleep on your arms hun...

I'm kidding... but yea... prolly a pinched nerve

It's a good point though, I really think it may be the position, but the weird thing is, it would be almost impossible for me to be sleeping wrong three nights in a row..ahh i can feel it in my hand right now...
Come to think of it, for a few months last year when I would drive my hands would fall asleep, oh boy.

Change your pillows, add one, take one away or try a contoured cervical pillow. You want to try to maintain the natural curve of the neck without overexaggerating it. And try to avoid sleeping with your hands under your head, or on your stomach.

Assuming you don't sleep on a waterbed, considering how much weight you've gained, if your mattress is old it might be shot or just not providing you with enough support. Worst comes to worst, try slipping a sheet of plywood between the mattress and boxspring, the entire length of the bed as an interim measure.

But try the pillow thing, first.

you on the sauce? you been producin too many red blood cells? noticed any snoring starting when you gained weight quickly? notice yourself sleeping in a different position since you gained weight? legs ever hurt before or during the night?

She beat me to it. I was going to suggest sleeping with a thinner pillow or a cervical pillow, etc. If I sleep propped up on too many pillows, I get the same problems.

Are you thinking about stuff/ do you have anxiety?

I had the same prob. till I made myself get up at 330 am to do cardio.

Worked like a charm.

Now when I get up at 5 it feels like sleeping in!

I'm serious. Set your alarm for 3:45 tomorrow am or Monday am and have the coffee ready. dont go back to sleep. You will be tired for about a day but you 'll sleep like a baby that night. haha! Try for a couple of days to reprogram sleep for whatever time you like.

Simply Sleep works good too if that dont work.

I know what its like to toss and turn w/ your own thoughts. I hate it.

yeah, I have had some extra drama in my life that I won't get into but I get in bed and the more I tell my self to stop thinking the more I think. Called my dr to see if they could call my in something but dr is out and they will have to let me know in the am...lol

I took some over the counter crap and 2 hours, still up watching tv. Once I go to sleep, I sleep very heavy. It is getting to sleep.

Yeah it could be you gained too much weight/fat and your joints or tendons or nerves are not used to it or whatever. I often wake up with totally numb/asleep shoulder socket or arms or hands or hips. You name it. I dont know what the reason is either. Im just not motivated enough to find out. I blame everything on me being fat so I presume that's your problem too.

fatness = neuropathy
Degenerative discs will do it too, but I think in his case he's a bit young for that. So yeah ...

key KSHARP! Thanks sweetie for the K! :)

One thing my sister tried that worked for me too ; as a last resort is turn the tv off and lay there and focus on relaxing each muscle. go as limp as you can. After that picture yourself sinking into the bed and falling further and further into the bed.

works for me ; it wont hurt to try. It's helped me ; I no longer have the problems but I've been through YEARS of sleeping problems and disorders. If there is a sleeping disorder - I've had it.! haha! I've got some horror stories.

My horror stories start with my girlfriend and I sleeping on a not so suitable bed, talk about fighting. lol one early morning my girlfriend got really close tot the edge of the bed and fell on the floor, I woke up as she was falling, lol, she gets up, doesn't even look at me because she was embarrassed and walks out of the room with a "fuck you".
